Cluster Fly's?
I used to have them in my Camp/Cabin mostly on the Southern side of the house. You'll need to spray the ground around your place to knock them down.

I know the feeling. My wife went yesterday and got 2 zappers and 4 'liquid traps'.
Not sure, but if things keep on the way they are we may start eating them to save money.

Although she keeps going for the jalapeño sky raisins (bees) as well.
Global warming. That's the answer for everything that's wrong, even too much snow. As far as flies go I think it depends on where you live. I've seen a couple this year. I think I may have collected one mosquito bite, too.

We used to have fly problems when the neighbor had a herd of cows nearby. The liquid hanging traps work well if placed near the area to be protected but not near enough for the odor to be offensive or to attract even more flies to the area. Since the cows left a few years ago, the fly issue abated substantially.
It's been a cool late spring /early summer so far here in the Northeast. Ripe for flies I think. I've noticed them too, when usually the only time the flies come is late summer/fall/apple season

Permethrin kills it all I guess. Flies to crawlie buggy things. I'm surpised that you can buy over the counter products that actually kills stuff.
Haven't noticed any up this way but I am closer to the “big city“ than you are Skeets.
Maybe those flys are smarter than we think!
Not sure if they are "stable flies" or blow flies, but they have attacked my sheep so bad I had to bring them up from the pasture where they usually spend the summer (grass, water and plenty of trees for shade). Let them go in their winter run in shed, and added a tarp to make it darker. They were being eaten raw, or rubbing their faces raw to get the flies off. Not sure if they are infested with larvae, but sprayed liberally with screw worm spray. Fingers crossed that will do it. Don't usually have this problem, no lambs so no open wounds. Shearing cuts were all healed up.
Different pests this year in veggie patch too, for whatever reasons. Cutworm eating corn seedlings, but so far no potato bugs and few fleabeetles. Way too many voles.
