What is "Rear Ballast"? And why do you need it?

I read people talking stability with rear ballast which is so true! But, when I read these post, I never see where people are talking about how important it is to also have rear ballast when lifting heavy to take the strain and pressure off the front axle.
Wondered the same thing.

When we are talking ballast we are referring to rear ballast behind the tractor as well as loaded tires. The loader should not be used without at least another implement attached at the rear for that exact reason you mention. If nothing is ever on the front then only loaded tires is recommended for stability. I do not load my tires as I trailer it and am close to my limit.
