Hi I bought a new L2501 last year and I am finding out I need a little more tractor I am not knocking the 2501 at all it is a going little tractor but I am looking at around a 40 horse. Any way what do u think is a fair price for it. It has 45 hours on it barn stored very clean almost new. I was just wonder retail and trade in price. And I know it's probably going to hurt

Your going to have to give us a lot more information.
2wd?
4wd geared?
4wd HST?
FEL?
Any other options?

A new with the current incentives would be around $18,000.00 before taxes. It will be an up hill battle for you! With current programs and 0% for 5 years and the recently added 6 year power train warranty.

You are going to have to be 20-25% lower and it will only appeal to people that can stroke a check for it.

Sorry for the bad news!

This is about it. I have a one year old L2501 HST, FEL, R4 tires in excellent condition. I also need a larger tractor for my 35 acres. I figure mine will bring about $15,000.

JD88 & Eray,
Have either of you talked to your dealer about a trade in on the new tractor you want? I have never traded a tractor, so I'm not sure if this is something that would bring you a better price or not.

I figure a dealer makes $2,000 on a new $18,000 tractor. So he can buy a new 2501 for $16,000. He is going to want to buy a used one for at least $2,000 less since it has no 0% financing. That makes him need to be in it for no more than $14,000. Then he may not offer as good a price on the new tractor as he would have to for a cash sale. I have a farm tax certificate so I would not save anything on taxes by trading. It never hurts to ask but I doubt that I could come out ahead by trading. I may just keep the 2501 and buy a second tractor.

Eray,
I wasn't sure if it would be any better than selling it outright.
I think it is a losing proposition either way. About the only way to come out is to use it 5 years then sell it. I sold my 6 year old John Deere 3032E for almost what I gave for it. New tractors seem to depreciate a lot the first year then not so much thereafter. I think it will bring $15,000 now. In 5 years it will probably bring $12,000. $3000 to use one for 5 years is not too bad.

Used L2501 have been popping up here and there on tractorhouse and fastline. Typically 15,500 is what dealers are asking used. Barlows quoted me 17,500 hst, fel and turfs new machine.

This is why its very hard for me to justify the L2501. Great for me now, but resale around here would be tough. It would take months and Id border line give it away...

Wouldn't that be the case with any new tractor? Or do you think there is something particular about the l2501. I am most likely buying a new L2501 within a week. I have looked at many tractors, and in all cases, it seems, with the incentives and warranties a new one makes more sense than a year old one, unless the year old is significantly discounted. Especially if you finance. The particular L2501 with loader and cutter comes in well under 18,000. Financed at 0% that comes to around $291 for 60 months. To get those same payments financing a used one, then you would have to buy the tractor for under $16,000. So then from the $16,000 take off what you think the lost 6 year warranty, and the no longer new, and the risk that you are getting someone else's problems. It would have to be $14,000 (including a rotary cutter) for me to be interested.

Unless a $14,000 used one comes along, I'll buy new. Now, as 1970cs suggests, someone not financing has a different calculation, and may well be willing to give $15,000+

But the same basic calculations worked out for the various other Kubota and John Deere models I was considering. I didn't see it as a particular problem for the l2501. Seems just the nature of the game.

I just made a deal today for a L2501 DT, loader, mower, & box blade for $16,980+tax/insurance and 0% financing. That maybe helps gives some insight on what new ones can be bought for.

I was quoted north of 21k by two dealers. Barlow 17,500 plus freight. Add kubota insurance.

The allure of these machines,
L2501
Massey 1726e
Kioti CK2610

Is larger frame, but no DPF. I want to run a 5' cutter minimum. Kioti told me light weight 5' only. Which is fine, but moving to just a 30hp machine yields the PTO hp I need.

Re-selling a 24.8hp CUT is where the issue lies...

Ive riden on
Deere 3032e
Kioti DK3510
New Holland Workmaster 33

If I had to buy a machine today, it would be NH. Stronger loader and 0% 84 months to keep payments around $150 so Wife doesnt kill me.

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat. I figure I'll regret whatever choice I get so when I get the free time to go buy I'll probably just see which direction my car takes me... :)

The only tractor dealer in my town is Massey and New Holland. They will no longer sell the smaller New Hollands, so I haven't really given them a look. Maybe I should take a trip to the next closest New Holland dealer.

Deere will give you 84 months at 0%, but you have to pay a 5% fee to get that.

Decisions, decisions.

I will say that I just liked the sound of the L2501 with its low revs at PTO speed. Maybe engine sound is the dumbest thing to base a tractor purchase on, but it is what tugs at my heart.

Im with you, just mowed out back at 2000 RPMs. And my rated speed is more like 2500.

Its just the whole 24.8hp part... If its a B, well, thats normal. An L? I just foresee resale issues on my end if I finally make the jump to a 40hp machine like I really want.

Kubota isn't the only one making an L sized tractor at this hp, they're all having to do it now thanks to emissions standards. I don't think it'll hurt resale value at all because it'll be easier to sell a tractor that doesn't have a dpf than one with 1,000 hours and the buyer knows the dpf will need to be cleaned before long.

JD88 we are in the same boat as you. My Dad bought a new 2014 L3901hst w/quick attach loader R4 ind tires in Jan 2015. He finds the tractor to be too light traction wise and loader wise, the loader is only rated for 1130 lbs. I got 2 prices to trade one on a McCormick x1.35 allowing $18000 for ours on trade we paid a little over $24000+ taxes for it new, the other price was on a Kubota L4700 hst with loader and they will give us $18500 for ours, seems everyone on here is of the same opinion the loss in the first couple of years on a tractor is huge after that not so much I know of a few cases where guys have traded a 15 year old machine stored indoors and well maintained getting more on trade than they paid new. It is a hard pill to swallow taking a 5-6 grand hit, my Dad didn't do a lot of research before buying and I wasn't involved in the sale I wish I had been because I may have been able to persuade him to buy a larger machine that was heavier an had had more loader lift capability. If your looking for a 40+ hp tractor and want to stay with Kubota the mx4800/mx5200 are a good pick, only a couple grand more than the L4700 and is heavier and will lift a lot more, this may be be the direction we take also. cheers

Well that's what I was afraid of. I might just have to deal with it for a year or two. And the mx is my first choice. Thank you all for your help

I just traded one of those evil orange dog tractors in on a L2501 and a qd loader and forks. A 1994 Kioti LK3504 with TRUF tires for thirsts sake and no loader.and he gave me 4K on it. I thought i did well. Most farmers are adding to their fleets and operations and not exchanging. But my dealer was great to work with
