The manual for my Kubota B1550HST has a list of other brand of fluid to use and I chose Exxon Torque Fluid 56.
It has been in there and change date is comining up.
And need to change for the 3800HST.
What quality and brand of oil is real good to use.

All high quality oils will cost about the same, so go with the Kubota fluid. That goes for filters also.

I asked a similar question on the Honda Odyssey forum several years ago. The members put the fear of God in me, saying my transmission would grenade if I used any off brand fluid in it. I used Valvoline Mercon LV 100,000 miles ago and it's still going strong...285,000 miles as of today. If the owners manual says it's OK then it's OK, and most likely several others will be OK as well. OK?

The oil you are currently using in the B1550 is a generic Universal Tractor Transmission Oil (UTTO). It is equivalent to original Kubota UDT which was the factory fill on that machine. Plenty of premium brands of UTTO to choose from.

The L3800 is a newer machine and Kubota did not recommend any alternatives to the factory fill which was SUDT. SUDT is an improved formulation of UTTO and the transmission oils specified in the B1550 manual are not equivalent. There are only a handful of other brands that are and they are just as expensive as the Kubota oil. Using a conventional UTTO in place of SUDT is a hot button topic that I will leave for others.

I see stuff like this all the time. Equate it to the oddball "well my grandpa smoked camels for 50 years and didn't die of cancer" so equating smoking camels (or anything for that matter)" must somehow be OK or good for you. You got lucky on your Honda. Having worked in automotive industry a long time, I can't even count how many transmissions I have seen "grenade" because owner did not believe warnings to use factory fluid. Face it fluids are cheap (even the "expensive" ones) like Honda ATF, or Toyota WS, or Kubota Super UDT2. But, for the small number of times one has to buy them, ya gotta wonder why someone thinks they should "cheap out" and try to play engineer. SMDH

Where are some of the best places to get SUDT at the best price?
Amazon is around $50 per gallon?

Most dealers have it on the shelf for about the same price.

ALSO, can SUDT2 be used in the old B1550?
Yes, it is backwards compatible.

Amazon is often more expensive than local outlets. This is especially true for items that are bulky/heavy and thus expensive for them to ship but I have found that in recent years there is often a high convenience cost for ordering from Amazon and they are often not price competitive but instead rely upon their pandemic popularity for generating sales volume.

I also tend to use ebay for new products that I can't get locally because feedback ratings are directly tied to the seller with ebay and this is of help in avoiding the counterfeit products that are often found on Amazon. With Amazon ratings, you often find reviews and ratings for multiple similar products from different sources are all combined together leaving you at the luck of the draw whether you will get what you actually expected.

It should be about $25.00 for a 1-gallon jug and about $105.00 for a 5-gallon pail at a Kubota dealer.

Yeah, my local dealer sells it way cheaper than Amazon. Ya have to be careful about some things (especially specialty items) being over priced on Amazon

You really need to be careful of counterfeit items (you can throw eBay in this group too). I’ve been burned on eBay before, but have always gotten a refund. Beware of spark plugs, oil filters, refrigerator water filters, cosmetics etc. …. And that’s just a few of the thousands of items being counterfeited and sold.

Those are the last two places I'd buy anything Kubota from, especially oil. God knows what's really in the container.

Either buy local or from someone reputable like Messicks.

Considering the cost of rebuilding or replacing an HST, I'd stick to factory fluids and filters.
