What electrical tester do I need to use to see if pump is getting power

Sorry for the dumb question but I am not at all familiar with testing electrical components.

I have an air ride seat in my M7060 and the pump has stopped working.

when you hit the switch to air up the seat, nothing happens. I could have a bad switch or bad pump.

I have checked all the fuses.

I can get the connection to the pump off but I need advice on how to test it.

It would seem that if the switch is working, you could detect power going to the pump.

I use a test light for a lot of DC circuits. It is a go/no go tool and simple to use.

Connect the alligator clip to battery negative post.

Use sharp end to detect power on wiring going to pump.

Test light sold at any auto parts shop and on line for less than $20.

The cheap test lights have plastic insulated wire which goes very stiff in cold weather to buy the best you can afford.

Thank you. I ordered one. Can I ground it anywhere else besides the battery? I don’t know if the cord is long enough to go from the battery to the inside of the cab.

Yes, you can ground it anywhere. Doesn't have to be at the battery.

That’s a fine tester…but a VOM (Volt/Ohm Meter) is a LOT more useful. The test light only lights up if it detects sufficient current to illuminate the lamp….but doesn’t tell you HOW MUCH voltage is actually present. IT also will not test for continuity on an unpowered circuit.

They are cheap….even a $7 one from Harbor Freight is more useful than a test light/probe.
