I got a quote today for this trailer. It's a 18+2ft car hauler. 10k with heavy duty ramps, driver side fender will be made removable for cars. Spare tire/wheel included. Also extra D rings installed by manufacturer for $7100 shipped, registered and inspected. It's a very nice trailer, rugged as heck. (This is just a stock version on site, mine would be custom made and shipped).

I like the fact that I could side load with the pallet forks. The axles are positioned just right so I could easier lift lumber off from the side or like I said pallets what not. Very versatile! And I need to tow a car, well got a good trailer for that! Or renting a mini excavator? No problem! It's all heavy duty 5 inch C channel.

I'd suggest getting a quote from these guys...https://www.appalachiantrailers.com/equipment-trailers

I had one built with much the same specs (but they include more welded D rings, tool box and some other niceties). They are legit.

I had them add fork pockets too. If you have that option, get them.. Pictured here is the fork carrier...

Best of luck to you.

I relatively sure that question wasn’t serious, but serious answer: in some limited circumstances that can work. My brother and I co-own a couple of implements and share more equipment than we co-own. Probably would do more of that than we do now if we lived closer than 2 hours apart. It allows both of us to have access to more stuff than either would have on our own due to not only cost sharing, but also storage sharing. “My” chipper is a good example. Neither of us need a chipper full time, there’s never an emergency need for a chipper, and it’s easily transportable (assuming you have an adequate forklift on each end, which we do) so it’s a good candidate for sharing. It’s a good deal for the right equipment if you have the right people involved.

For the co-ownership of expensive stuff, setting up a LLC to be the titled owner and setting up the participants as stockholders (ownership) and managers (control) with a pretty standard off the shelf operating agreement, with maybe a few custom tweaks if you wish, is a relatively easy and cheap way to set up the contractual side of things and it makes it easy to set up insurance, financing, handling death or departure of a participant, etc. My brother and I already had a LLC, so that part was already in place for us. With a few hundred dollars and a bit of planning, setting up a co-op situation isn’t difficult.
It was somewhat serious. The arrangement that you and your brother have makes a lot sense for equipment. Close to $100k on a new excavator is hard to justify simply due to the lack of use. The same goes for some implements too, unless there's a chance to make money with them. No one is going to pay me to run an excavator! 😂

$50k or less for a good condition, sub 2,000 hour cabbed excavator in the 5 to 6 ton range would be doable and what I'd be looking at. Six way blade and hydraulic thumb would be nice features too.

Can't imagine not having a thumb. Incredibly useful.

Trailer shopping .... now that's fun! What do you mean by the statement above.
It will be made to remove the driver side fender which will lower the clearance to open a car door, especially for a classic car that sits lower.

Seems like a nice trailer too. Might have to think about it. But I also like supporting our local trailer dealer. We always bought and had trailers ordered from them or serviced. Sometimes it's just nice to pay a little extra for awesome service and supporting local businesses. It's a tough thing ya know? Not many trailer dealers in VT.

Oh, I get it. It's been a long time since I had a vehicle whose doors wouldn't clear fenders on a trailer. Not because I don't want such a vehicle, it's just the way things have turned out.

I sold a MidSota 22ft long trailer (at a profit) last year that was really well made but the fenders were a pain. I understand the desire to support a local company, and I did that with the first five trailers I bought, three of which I still have. When I started looking at gooseneck trailers eariler in the year I decided to order direct from Kaufman who offer a factory pickup or delivery program. I picked mine up and got a lot of trailer for the money. I have no illusions about it but just like it for what it is, how much it cost and how well it's worked for me so far.

Also my dealer is like 8 miles from me and they do all the warranty work if there is any as their certified by Sure-Trac to service them and they stock parts. It's a nice piece of mind. I realize there are other trailers out there that may be similar quality and options for a little less. Mine was technically quoted for $6400, but there are taxes and other state fees on top. Most of these trailer companies like the one mentioned to me, don't ship to Vermont as far as I know so you have to arrange shipping from a 3rd party and that alone cost a pretty penny. I don't feel like I'd save THAT much to warrant a headache lol. I have good relations with the local dealership here. Living in a small state with only a few trailer dealers with not much competition, it is what it is. Things just cost more here.

You'll get no argument from me. Looks like you've thought this through and are making a good decision based on variables applicable to you. (y) I buy a lot of stuff from the local Kubota dealer for the same reason.

I don't like the local Kubota dealer, they have too much stuff I want. End up going in there for a can of Kubota paint or something and end up looking at implements, attachments, other tractors. It's a scary place.

Was going to change the oil in the BX Sunday, but didn't have a filter. i would have sworn I had an oil filter in the Kubota parts bin, but I didn't. So yesterday I made a trip to the local dealer and picked up a pair of them so I'll have one the next time. I almost choked when she gave me the invoice, $38.91 for two filters and tax. When I looked at the work order for the last oil change last summer, the filter price was $8.60, so they are more than twice the price from a year ago. Stopped at NAPA on the way back and bought a 2.5 gallon jug of Rotella T4 15-W40 for $47.60.
Changed the oil, I really like the quick drain, checked all the other fluids, and greased the FEL and mower deck. The air filter was getting pretty dark looking from dust and dirt, so I changed that too.
I may have to mow the yard one more time depending on how soon cold weather finally gets here, but the BX is ready for spring mowing or some snow removal if we get some sloppy stuff that the JD blower doesn't like.

I was outside stacking up some kindling wood when I decided to measure the combined width of the tractors for the new smaller of two sheds/pole barns that I'm building. Plan is to have tractor storage near the house with firewood in the back half. Based on measurements I'm looking at 20 ft wide by 24 ft deep. I missed the best light by about 30 seconds. The Kubota orange against the golden glow in the background really popped.

Much of the snow from Saturday and Sunday has melted away but there's plenty on the mountains.

Did a bit of cleanup around the houses and chipped the limbs and a couple small dead trees by our private road.

Also picked up trash on our public road frontage. That had nothing to do with the Kubota’s though. I don’t quite understand why folks chuck their McDonald's meal deal remnants out the window, but I mostly feel sorry for whoever sits out there throwing out empty Fireball, Angry Orchard, and Colt 45 containers, which is most of what the trash consists of. Wife and I don’t drink. Sometimes I think if someone checked our trash they’d think we drink way too much and our taste never progressed from high school whatever you can get your hands on days.

IMG_6743.jpeg

After that, swapped the chipper for the winch. Wife was wanting some straight logs in the 30’ to 60’ range for a landscaping border project. With our Virginia pines aging out over the past few years we have plenty on the ground already self limbed. Need the winch to low impact retrieve them.

Wife was in town for a while and while I have been extremely pleased with this winch and have used it a good bit with no complaints, I’ve never been quite satisfied with ground clearance/departure angle. That’s not a Farmi issue or a Kubota issue. That’s a user issue (me) not taking the time to thoughtfully set it up and fiddle with it until it’s right. Last time out, I swapped the hydraulic top link for the manual link, which is a bit longer. That pushed the top back enough to keep the winch cage from hitting the ROPs which allowed raising the top of the cage a couple inches higher than the ROPs instead of stopping when they hit. Those couple inches was enough for it to no longer bottom out crossing the cut through the neighbor’s dam tail race. Maybe that was good enough, but I take this thing some pretty rough places and still wanted a little more improvement in departure angle. I think I’m done now with the top of the cage now about 6” above the ROPs at full height. Have to remember to lower it to get it through the 9’ door.

IMG_6751.jpeg

Immediately after getting that set up, wife returned from town and we had other things to work on together, so log retrieval will have to wait for another day.

My wife has been out at the farm working on various projects and overseeing the nieces as they help paint the house and various projects.

I get the picture below stating she decided to get the tractor out and was throwing away the old sofa from the house.

I guess I may be losing my toy since she has figured out how to work it.

Solid choice. Our Sure Trac has never let us down and tows like a dream. Good call on the extra D-rings: it never fails that you always seem to need one where you don't have it! Having stake pockets on the sides and being able to use the D-ring inserts wherever you need them is a game changer too.

If I can make one suggestion see if they can add a D-ring on each side of the dovetail. A lot of the trailers I've seen only have tie down points on the flat portion of the deck. The tie down points on the back have been a game changer for securing anything attached to the back of the tractor.

Don't forget a toolbox for the tongue for straps, chains, tools, etc.

It comes standard with D rings on the dove/beaver tail :D

Afterall, it's designed for a car hauler but can be used for equipment as well. Having more appropriate drings to tie down the tractor will be very handy! I think being able to side load the trailer with stuff using the tractor is gonna be a game changer and make life a little easier. My other trailer had sides on it which made it impossible.

When you have a welding machine you can put D-rings wherever you want them. 😃
