awful day today with the mini. I stopped taking pictures after I hit the first line...

But, there were more to follow, unfortunately. First pic was of how far away I was from the utility markings (broken line is just at the edge)....so, I figured that they were off by 3 feet. NOPE, they just didn't bother marking that one at all! You know what they say about ASS_U_MPTIONS.

So 3 cable lines (from two different companies) and I "tickled" a tel-com line.

Anyway, I was trying to be careful but the ground was so friggin hard (hard clay) that I had to use all the digging force I could muster to get it to dig. When that happens, you don't feel shyt (not that you could "feel" any of the lines devoid of conduit.

Today sucked...with a heat index of over 100 just to remind one that you are never in "control". Just glad that they weren't electric or gas.

Many years ago I was digging footings for a friend's back yard sun room addition. He had made the appropriate calls and had the underground utilities marked. However, he had forgot to mention that he had a small plastic natural gas line run over to an outdoor bar-b-que grill on the other side of the lawn.

The backhoe is an excellent "locater"! I found that line quickly and told him to go quick shut off the supply to it after he stopped swearing at himself for forgetting about it. He had no idea where the shut off was. I told him to go quick grab a potato. He gave me a funny look and I yelled "JUST GO"! Less than a minute later I shoved that potato onto the line and stopped the gas flow. :)

We wound up replacing and re routing the gas line after finding it's shut off valve and finishing his sun room footings.

What model is that corn planter UpNorthMI?
The corn planter is made up of 2 John Deere model 71 units fitted to a newer made 3pt frame. These units have been around for a long time. I have various plates and various sprockets sizes for the planters. They are easy to adjust for different seed sizes and spacing.

With the crazy summer rain we have had, my field corn planting was the most successful ever, this old planter did an amazing precision job of planting corn and every seed came up!

The wood clear up is a constant task, got the old buzz saw out for a large stack of small diameter cuts. Killed the 40 year old buzz saw gearbox, guess the oil seals leaked and it did not run so well without any oil on this very hot day! New gearbox on order but delivery is 14 weeks! Upgraded and ordered a new buzz saw, it's Italian but came from a dealer in Canada, hope to get it assembled and test it out this weekend.

The L3200 hauls a heavy load of timber from a large fallen tree in the 8' farm dump trailer. Sure makes life easier when you load with a grapple and unload with the trailer tilt!

That is a sweet looking trailer. What brand is it?

Recently did a little late corn planting, to give the deer something to eat as the first frosts or snow comes.

How do you like that TerraForce tiller? I have forks by them and they work great. Long term we will be getting a tiller. There are a bunch in that range to choose from. Is that a chain or direct drive?

Back from sea just in time to clear the driveway of a old apple tree. Then of course a good mow with the Z422 all the rain while I was away had the grass shooting up.

I used a really cool attachment recently that formed/rolled out raised beds with drip tape. We did several thousand feet in an afternoon.

I find this just a tad ironic that I received the newsletter in my email just now reminding me that Wednesday was national 8-11 day....the day I had a cable cutting frenzy.

That looks awesome. What is inside the fabric other than the drip line? Is that just the mounded dirt?
It is just the mount that is formed. The material is stretched over it and then the sides are covered over. It is a really slick system.

Today I started my lawn project. I went to TSC and bought some Glyphosate concentrate.
This is what my 'lawn' is loaded with:

I had on hand some blue dye to help see where I sprayed. The Ag Station guy was right - even with the dye I'm sure I missed some spots.

The light color spots are due to sun light coming through the trees.

I had to wash the tractor off and take a shower to try and get rid of the dye/Glyphosate on us both.

How are you liking the dump trailer? Any issues or complaints?
Dump trailer is a great piece of equipment, no complaints, I filled it today several times with large rounds from a large fallen tree, I am in awe of what it will carry and love that I don’t have to empty the load other than pull the tilt leaver. I went back and forth on the 6’ or 8’ and on the 2 or 4 wheels, the 2 wheel 8’ was the right choice, also love that the wheels don’t stick out to catch on trees etc. build is very heavy it will still be in use long after I’m gone …lol.
