My back 2 acres hasn't been cut in over a month and it's damn near ready to be cut for hay. It's all I can do to keep the 3 acres that surround the house and barn cut back with all the rain we've had this spring, 6" this month so far.

I'm planning to pull the loader off this weekend and throw the 72" finish mower on to slowly tackle that. Although I could fire up the old JD 1530 with a 6ft brush hog the old homeowner left for us, hmmmm

Not sure where to post this...

Just a reminder to keep your head on a swivel and be mindful of everything and everyone around you.

Operator was cleaning up trees with an excavator. Evidently he made contact with someone's head while rotating the cab.

^^^Another reason why Rule Number One is no observers within 50 feet or more, depending on what I'm doing.

Had a guy that insisted on watching me cut an overgrown field with a rotary mower. Second time I stopped I had to get ugly: "If I see you within 100 yards of me, I'm going to load up and go home." He got the hint...

I'd knock it down with the brush mower, then go over it with the finish mower if it's THAT tall.

It's close to waist high at this point. I like that plan, gives me an excuse to use that old beast. I've only ever driven it around the yard as it's too big and heavy to do much around the house with.

you must have one hell of a finish mower if you think it can handle waist high grass. My LandPride FDR1660 is a great finish mower but grass that high is out of its league. Like the suggestion above, I'd take my bush hog in there and knock it all down with repetitive mowings at successively lower settings

It can handle it, I'm pretty sure. I've used it for very minor brush clearing in the past. This field is an all-fescue field that is usually cut weekly. I made a fence row lap last week on the zero turn. Either will cut it, just going to be really slow. I'm going to use the tractor just to be higher up and away from the ticks as best I can. Either way, I'm not going for a finish quality cut, just get it back to manageable with the ZT. But I do like the idea of putting in a little time on that old JD, so I'll probably fill it up tomorrow and give-er hell. The finish mower is buried in the run-in shed, the JD is ready to go after I untarp it.

Finally got the hydraulic top link installed. Too wet to use the tractor though. Hat tip to FitRite Hydraulics…Brian made a kit for me and it was simple install, just follow the instructions and it operated very smooth. They also made up a kit for my wagon but I’ll post a couple pics of the wagon in the implements/attachments section. Brian was extremely easy to work with and very patient work out the details for everything to be compatible with my machine and the extra planned use of the winch. Thanks FItRite (Brian)
I appreciate you.

I was able to use the new top link to hitch up the winch for first time. Was planning to actually install the winch, however I think the vendor gave me the wrong the PTO shaft so I have not cut / installed. Hopefully we will get that worked out. The top link seems like a game changer…I think it will come in really handy with my brush cutter.

Happy Hydraulic Holiday Weekend everyone!

Thank you…I’ve never been accused of that before…must be the lighting. I don’t have running water 🙄where I keep it but set it out when it rains to rinse the worst of it off. I still think it the lighting…it’s not clean up close. I’ve never washed this machine with soap since in bought it new in 2021.

Spent a couple hours yesterday removing old dried built-up grease from the loader and then greasing it. Scrubbed the loader and tractor. Had the loader on and off a couple times, bucket on and off to reach everything and get it as clean as possible. Not normally that OCD. Parked the loader in the shed and then mowed the yard.

There was no rush to get done. It was enjoyable to be looking through the clean glass and seeing what looked like a brand new hood. Didn't realize how dirty the tractor had gotten until it was clean again:)

If you look closely at the picture you will actually see two very clean tractors ;)
Heres a little different angle on the grey one…(not so clean). I took her for a drive and let run since she been sitting since the fall. I took her for a romantic putt-putt down the road to see the river and bridge. I passed two people walking their e-bikes cause they ran out of juice and did not want to peddle the hills.😏

Small road trip down to the neighbors....you know, so I can be neighborly....Yep this'll cost me...
20250524_132125.jpg

Got a bunch of brush pushed up so they can cut their pasture
20250524_133613.jpg

And then, this is why I really enjoy helping out my elderly neighbors.....So I can F my new expensive tractor up
20250524_142139.jpg

I was pushing up a massive pile that I probably shouldn't have been. Then suddenly the refuel alarm starts sounding off.

And of course, knowing that I had just filled her to the top prior to heading over here, my rear had puckered up immediately.

I had unfortunately landed on a log promptly bending the guard that protected the lower hose connecting the two fuel tanks. Which in turn immediately ripped the hose off and empty my fuel tanks about a half mile into the woods.
20250524_150552.jpg

Luckily my shop is only 8.5 miles from the house, so a quick ride to get some tools and a couple clamps we got her back to the house. It did bend the outlet for the passenger tank pretty good but I got a hose to clamp fairly securely.

Going to straighten out the guard tuesday when I go back to work and we should be good to go. Also bent whatever that little vent bolt thing is right in front of said guard.

Why I help some people is beyond me, this is also a feller who won't frequent my shop in town because we are "always too high"

One question: what is this "Stall Guard" function doing?
Supposedly prevents the tractor from stalling when loading her up.

That plus the auto throttle function thing was on when I first brought the tractor home. Turned the auto throttle function off because I prefer to just have to the tractor scream on high idle but always left the stall guard on.....for whatever reason.

At 37hp she'll bog when you dig off into a large pile anyways.

I always figured that was just because its a fairly oversized underpowered tractor to begin with. I always just let off her a bit as she starts boggin down.

I reckon the stall guard would prevent her from fully stallin out if you weren't fully sure what you were doing.
