It was just too good to be true but at least the wife and kids had a good day on the deck watching me work.

Funny... we have the same non-migrating plastic owls down here in AZ. Some of ours are the swivel-head variety.

:)

Thanks guys, it's been a lot of work and was mean to be our cottage but we decided to move here when we retired. Sometimes the mile long driveway kind of get to be a pain in the butt but I can't imagine living anywhere else. Our plastic owl has been with us from the beginning, not sure where it came from.

Man, if I owned a place like that, I'd never get anything done. I'd sit and look at the view all day. Absolutely beautiful!
Owl note: When the woodpeckers were attempting to destroy my cabin with dozens of holes per minute, (slight exaggeration) a guy I worked with loaned me an owl of the plastic variety. It worked for a while, then they drilled it full of holes and & I had to buy him a replacement.

I think I'd be sitting out with the pellet gun to thin them out. Caught a couple bigger ones lurking around out front, made a tasty lunch.

. . . Our plastic owl has been with us from the beginning, not sure where it came from.
Most of them are illegal immigrate from China that originally came into the country on work visas to help control rodent populations. After their visas expired, they stayed looking for a better life. It is easy to tell the native owls from the immigrants. Even though they came to your country for a better life, they are proud of their heritage. You will find a tattoo on them that says, "Made in China", to remind them of their origin. :p ;) :D :D

Nice veiw, i wouldn't get anything done either :D

We got our first dusting of snow last night. There was maybe a 1/4" on the truck. Heard that schools shut down. Roads are ice, and every one is in a panic  Had three vehicles pass me like I was standing still going into work. Found two out of the three in the ditches a couple miles further up the road

Guess I'd be in jail. It's kinda like the seagulls here, the damn $hit hawks are everywhere and protected, go figure.

Woodpeckers usually dig in wood to find bugs or to send a message to other woodpeckers, either mating or territorial. When they are sending a message they like a good sounding board. They will even drum on tin if its loud enough. I put up a bat house a couple of years ago, but have never seen bats use it. Woodpeckers on the other hand think it makes a great sounding board, maybe that has something to do with bats avoiding the bat house.;) Anyway since the bat house has been up the woodpeckers have left my house and garage alone. Not saying it will work everywhere and not saying that I wouldn't resort to a little target practice if it became necessary. Might even help my grouse shooting if I could hit one on the fly with a pellet gun.
