My kid does metal working and repair. This was dropped off today. It's a 6' Bush Hog brand, heavy duty. The stump jumper literally fell off.

Sounds like a good project! Will your son/you be posting work in progress pictures? Any plans for restoring/replacing the deck?

Lol, it fell off after hitting a big rock. I think his plan is to pound it back in shape with the help of a torch. After that, patch up where the blades went through with sheet metal.
He just finished modifying the front end of a light duty rotary cutter.

Good for him!

That looks like a big project for sure. It looks like it's gonna take a decent amount of "gas and pounding".

I think I'm too old for that, but I wish him well.

Address the issue with the gearbox spline and blade carrier hub before worrying about the deck. Blades shouldn’t contact the deck like that.

lol. My “lightly used” Land Pride RCR1860 had the stump jumper crack all around the pivot point for the blades. My good friend has done much welding on it over the years. It’s on its second gear box, second set of skids, second tail wheel frame, third tail wheel, third set of blades (maybe fourth?).

Mine doesn’t have a ridge in the deck from the blades hitting the deck, but I do believe the blades can flex a fair bit under heavy use (some might say abuse?). Or the T bar under the stump jumper may have a bit of aftermarket ground contact induced adjustment. Keeps the upper edge tips of the blades sharp I suppose

WOW..... I'll bet that was a surprise when it happened... If it were my mower, I would get another one.. Then depending on cost, fix, sell the old one to retrieve some value from it..
