Look up a program called "Sketchup". It is a Google product. Download the free version. It is an excellent solid modeling program. It has the ability to save in a few different formats. Pretty easy to learn to use with many possibilities. I have used it for 3D printed parts. I have my own RepStrap printer.

I use DraftSight. It's also free, read and writes AutoCAD dxf format, and is a very robust solution for 2D drawings. It's awesome!

It's from the makers of SolidWorks which is high-end 3d modelling software that lots of pro's use.
