Hi there
My very old RW25 back hoe loader has been doing sterling work helping me build a new extension to my cottage. One of the stabiliser feet for the back hoe has broken and I would like to weld it together again but I do not know what the metal is. It is obviously a casting but what type and what filler rod I should use I don't know. If any one could give information and help I would be very grateful.
Many thanks, Bill.
P.S does anyone know where I could get a parts manual and workshop manual?

What tractor is it on?
If it's a cast iron part, check to see if a magnet will stick to it and that it throws sparks when ground, you'll need to use stainless rod and heat the entire part to prevent cracking, it's tricky to weld cast.

Can you post a pic? Brazing might be a good option, especially if you can heat the whole part. If that doesn't work, I'd consider fabricating a new foot out of mild steel, that's what mine are.

Leafy England....
welcome Bill,
i know the RW25 well, used to have one back in the early 80's, great bit of kit even if the cab is a bit " cosy" , i used to drive it between jobs from site to site.
does yours have the 4in1 bucket option , mine did and it was such a improvement over the plain bucket.
If memory serves me correct the stab feet are made from steel, but cant be 100% until i can digout my rw25 workshop manual.

i'll update this later for you if thats ok, manuals in the loft somehwere and i'll need to rummage around for it.

Hi bill,
update for you, they are cast steel , so you'll need to fix them accordingly.
hope that helps you.

Preheating will help regardless of material.

Remove from machine to protect hydraulics and seals from heat.

Grind clean and create a slight hairline notch if possible along break.

Clamp securely into position on solid base.

Preheat.

Use a good general purpose electrode (low-hydrogen if you're familiar with it).

If cracked through rod-mounting eye, confirm alignment as part of the process by using a full-size bolt until tacked securely into position.

Please advise your experiences so we may all learn.
