I installed a temperature gauge on my L2850D in the top radiator hose with an inline adapter. It worked out well and was simple to install.

Ran the Temp gauge cable through the fuel tank tachometer cable channel behind the instrument cluster panel. I used the top radiator hose for the best temp reading with a Stewart Warner gauge mounted to the side plate by key switch with a rubber grommet through the plate for the sensor cable.

Parts included in pictures with part numbers. Gauge could be replaced with much cheaper one (Just my personal preference).

Curious why you didn't put the sensor in the head where it has better accuracy and a much quicker / cheaper install? literally pull plug install sensor, done.

For anyone installing the block sensor in the head as North Idaho Wolfman suggested you will need an adapter (bushing) to get from metric to SAE. You can get the brass bushing at OReilly Auto. It is n a pack of 5 different sizes for $10

This is on my L2850DT, I wanted to keep my factory gauge which already uses the Thermo Unit Plug. If it were on my L275F I would have that option which is what i plan to do.

The Head bolt and valve guide Exhaust/Inlet are next to the thermo unit.
