Install a roller switch on the door to open the power to the thermostat on the furnace ! I did that AFTER I went for a 3 hour 'help a neighbour with Kubota' run, came back ,door open ,furnace ON, even though tstat was 'off'.
Door switch in tstat power ( R-H terminals,'usually' red and white) is 24 volts, safe to wire.

I hate it when I pull the blower tractor out of the semi-heated shop-close the big overhead door with the remote and proceed to make a pass to the road and back.
On the return pass,I realize somehow I hit the remote and opened the door!
Propane furnace has kicked on!
I'm try to be more careful now!

No worries.....propane is So..oooo cheap these days!

Seems like UPS or FedEx would be cheaper also.

No UPS or FedEX since they don't crate the doors at the factory. Installers come pick them up on their trailers or in the back of their trucks.
There are no companies around here that have parts, they all get their complete doors in much the same way that I have to do. Anyone that does metal buildings around here are backed up around 6 months and have no interest in fixing my problem.
They come ready to install, and they are preloaded to roll up without much effort.
A young man with great hand and arm strength tried to preload the spring on the side that broke, he couldn't get enough on it.

I've never measured but it seems like your head might be pretty close to the top.... stand up quick... bango ??

'pipe' ? you mean the 'torsion' bar ? Mine are SOLID bars not 'pipe' (which to me is hollow )

As you can see, it's a pipe and not a very thick walled one either, almost like electrical conduit.
Anyway, found a guy that's local, so he'll get the new door and install it, no road trip for me to pick one up.

rule of thumb for those torsion springs is 1 full turn per 1' of door panel + 1 more turn.
you need 2 wrenches and 2 bars to adjust them.
also be sure to OIL those springs every year, if not rust will form and destroy the spring.
also be SURE to put nuts and bolts in the holes at the ends of the rails to STOP the door from 'launching'.

Don't think that's the way they do these. These are not like the springs your referring to. I have done those in the past by myself. That works with sectional doors, not with rollups.
I think what they do here is set them up on a fixture and roll them up door and all, then put the stops on both sides so they don't unravel.

Well I guess I'm not the only one. 2 days into owning my 2501 and I ran into an outside AC unit and let all the juice out. It's aluminum, so the whole coil had to be replaced... $900.00......

It looks like the tube was worn through by rubbing on the thin support plate.

Is there a missing bushing (bearing?) that the tube should be in?

There is a "bearing" in the flange if you want to call it that.

Ok, I zooomed up the picture, understand the 'rollup door' now. That spring ain't a 'normal' GD spring....well , for me ! Also understand the 'preloaded' reference, cause panel doors ain't !
There's a small hole in the tube, wondering if the tube should be though the bearing support and some bolt or screw in that hole ? Something should mechanically keep the shaft from going left-right-oopsy out the of the bearing ? I'd still spray the spring with some kind of 'oil', rustcheck though.

OK, there was a large cotter key that kept the shaft from shifting.
What happened was the bearing froze, and after several years, it cut the thin walled tube, then the shaft fell, only to be supported by the spring.

sad, bearing 'froze', probably due to not being oiled 'once in awhile'. The springs should have a light coating of 'sticky' oil on them as well.

I don’t have a dog in this show but I’ll suggest a lubrication product that is persistent in ”hanging on” to springs and such…. WD40 GEL…

I store a steel weight-lifting rack outside on an open porch exposed indirectly to the elements and after a whole year…absolutely NO rust. (I sprayed it on… then wiped it down with a paper-towel.)

I spray them with silicone.

Not sure if that would work since I live in a high caliche dust area, my worry would be any type lube would trap the dust.
