Wallenstein FX110

Good day.

Weather finally allowed me to pick up the Wally FX110.

I hope to play with that this when the ground forms up. It’s mud season right now. Hydraulic top link arrived recently so I brought that along too (it’s in the box leaning on the skidding plate.)

Well this was an interesting purchase for me…I was planning to buy by fall of ‘25. I looked at the Wallys in person and I liked what I saw but did not need so early and thought I would wait for a sale. A few weeks after visiting the place I planned to buy from I found a place in PA with an unbelievable price. So I asked the seller I wanted to buy from if they could get close. I told them I had no intention of buying from the place in PA but if they got close I would go ahead and buy now. Well they surprised me and called my bluff…and I wired them the money mid November and asked them to store until the weather would allow me to get it (thinking April).

I hope yours treats you as well as my FX85 has treated me.
I have gotten lots of use out of mine and hasn't let me down once.
Other than the optional chainsaw holder there is nothing i would change on mine after using it for many years.

Thanks. I ordered the saw holder but it’s on the small side…I would not buy that again. I think with the holes that are in the frame you could make a pattern easy enough and make a scabbard that would properly fit what length bar you have for the your saw.

EDIT 7/2025: after install and first use…I would buy the scabbard again.

Thanks. I ordered the saw holder but it’s on the small side…I would not buy that again. I think with the holes that are in the frame you could make a pattern easy enough and make a scabbard that would properly fit what length bar you have for the your saw.

thats what I did. i used some HDPE plastic sheet off-cuts and made my own using the existing holes on the LHS.

That's all kinds of awesome. I wish I had a need for these winches and chippers. Looking forward to seeing it in action.

That's a heavy duty looking unit. I assume it's for the MX6000.

Thanks. I demoed a similar one out at Hudson a while back before I had the MX and decided that when I got a bigger machine, when it’s time to start thinning the trees per the management plan, I would go ahead and get one….tah-dah.

I bet I will find a couple extra uses…game retrieval in a ravine or over one of our 2 cliffs over the river. (I bet it could work just as well for elk). I suspect if a vehicle gets stuck in snow / ditch it would come in handle as well. ….and finally I put I could use in tipping observation houses up.

Some of those are reaching a bit, primary use will be for logging. For their intended purpose they work very efficiently…at least the one I tried did. This one has a unique end to the steel rope…instead of a hook, it uses a ferule which the jury is still out on…but it looks like it should work well (until it slides off or I need to replace just the first few feet of cable). I’ve never enjoyed replacing those on steel rope, and the size of this makes me think it would not be fun.

Yep, plan to use behind the MX. That’s the plan until spousal unit buys me something larger…should be any day now.

Very nice! Hope it works well for all you have planned for it. Only regret with my Farmi is not buying it sooner.

Looks like a good unit. I have a Farmi that has been very good to me. I like the receiver. I also have a snatch block/pulley that I use to either double up the pulling force, or divert the cable off to a different angle.

The 8N also perks my interest, very nice looking.

I found the chain hooks on the side of mine to be too low, so I made two more close to the top, but still mounted on the sides.

I have the exact same thoughts about the ferrule end but after thousands of pulls mine is still like new. Perfect for choking logs / not so good for other stuff where a slip hook or a grab hook would have been better choice.

For logging the ferrule has never slipped or let me down yet but try to hook up to a back of a car thats slipped into a snowy ditch or atv stuck in the mud and its sucks.

One word of warning to protect the lead end of your rope is to watch how you choke into a tree to avoid kinking the wire rope.

Mine came with 2x of these and I sometimes think of switch from the slip to a grab hook and using these chokers more but since 100% of time I only use mine on trees (an 12,000 electric winch with hooks is also a tool I have) how it came for the purpose I bought it for needs no change.

Mine came with chokers as well then I ordered 2 more along with a scabbard and self releasing pulley.

I went through some analysis paralysis on which unit to get for sure. Thank fully I reached out to several members that helped me through based on their knowledge and experience. For those that helped with my decision, Thank you all for the help.

I originally thought I would get a uniforest but I could not come to terms with the offset PTO…not sure it is bad but I could not convince myself it was better either. The really liked the place out in NY that let me demo one, named Hudson…I’ve bought other stuff from them when I am passing by. They are great.

So it came down to Farmi and Wallenstein. I thought Farmi was maybe the most reliable based on volume, I think most have and really don’t see people speaking up with problems. With the Wally I really questioned the shorter cable compared to other units. Ultimately Wally had the extra features and the specs I wanted and I had a dealer within 2.5 hr of me. So that sort of pushed it over the edge.
