Walking, Trail Shoes

I’m looking for a new pair of walking-trail shoe, any recommendations from the tractor people ? I have had new balance in the past but not happy with their waterproofing. Sorry this was supposed to go in off topic

I have been using Zamberlan hiking boots for decades. I wear them all the time..... shopping, medical apts......winter.

I like Merrill and know they have waterproof versions of the shoe I have. Unfortunately that waterproof shoe did NOT fit the same so I haven’t ever bought them, too uncomfortable.

I have had both Merril and Keene shoes with pretty good luck. Liked the soles on the Merril a little better.

On my 3rd pair of Keen's. I had the waterproof tennis shoe, didn't last long at all. I am now on my 2nd pair of low top hikers, Targhee 2 or 3 is the model.

They are stupid comfortable from day 1. I will also recommend a quality pair of socks to go with,

I'm on my 2nd pair of Keen's. They have treated me well - their shoes just fits my foot really well.

They make both high top and low top stuff (i.e. boot and shoe)

I have always gravatated towards Merrill footwear. On my tractor, pushing a lawnmower and other outdoor work, I wear Merrill leather boots. They wear like iron and last for years.

I know a lifetime hiker (she has hiked between Canada to Mexico twice) who always wears Merrill MOAB.
Many hikers have nicknamed these "Mother Of All Boots".

Merrill MOAB are essentially a BOOT on the sole while being a SNEAKER on the top.

I like the Merrells also. I walk all day 10hr shifts on tile/concrete floors at work and rotate between 2 different pairs of Merrells most of the time and Rockports sometimes.

I wore a couple pairs of keen's right out.
I'm hard on shoes so I can't blame them for dieing.
The were extremely waterproof and very comfortable.
The other shoes that I've tried either failed way too quickly or were either uncomfortable or just failed to stop the elements from getting to my feet which bugs the crud out of me!

I wore steel-toed Carolina Logger work boots for years, both work and home. They were pretty well made.

Helped a buddy cut/slash/burn 5 acres one winter for home site 30 years ago. A lot was thornapple, and it was all done by chainsaw, and hauled to burn piles by hand.

My wife got good at taking thorns out of my feet that year.....right through the heavy leather into my feet.

Some days I'd have pieces of 4 or 5 in my feet.....ouchie!!

The boots I get for work have puncture proof soles. And they have saved my butt a couple times now.. I currently have a pair of Irish setter slip-on's.

With those boots, the sole wasn’t the issue.... friggin’ thorns would go right through sides of the shoe.

Those trees had 3” thorns everywhere....nasty trees and I liked to see them burn.
