Sheep farmer,
The vice is hanging out on the right in the fourth picture and (I think) is sitting in the center under the “head “ that has Sampson on the nameplate.

There is a lever with a black knob on the end that is clamping the vice (I think)

The vise is almost all cast iron, and what isn't is tool steel. It measures 18" x 9" x 5".
The pic below shows the mill, 6' 10" tall.
The blue carpeted divider wall is 5' 6" tall.
There is a 1gal jug of Kerosene (think prestone sized) on the floor on the right for more scale.

Ah so! In the words of Crocodile Dundee, that's not a vise, THIS is a VISE!

Yes, and keep in mind that is a 6" mill vise. (6" jaw width)
In my shop at work we had an 8", a 10", and a 12", and a 6" double ended. (basically two 6" vises in one casting)

I would like a vise in my barn to hold odds and ends still while I do things to them, but not quite of that caliber!

I have found as I get older lifting heavy objects up on the milling table difficult so this is my solution . I made a overhead trolly that swivels with an electric hoist that way you can lift any object not just a vice. I also have a cabinet right across from the mill to store all my milling acc. With rollout drawers to store acc. Makes life easier 👍

That looks handy! Nice shop, looks like you've got a lot of accessories/capabilities.
I see SuperSpacer, Hardinge head, surface grinder, cushion flooring, mill power feeds.
What brand is the mill? Don't recognize the paint job.
I assume you have a lathe also.

The last time I did a solo lift of the milling machine vise, I blew my guts out my bellybutton. I've asked for help going forward.
