Hi guys, I'm brand new here and this is my first post. I wanted to first thank this group, for helping me so far with my new project. This site is amazing for any kubota questions. While shopping for an 8N tractor, I found myself buying a smaller L1500 kubota 4wd. The seller informed me it was a grey market tractor and it was sometimes more challenging to get parts. I have used this site allready for several grey market questions and have allready fixed 3 major oil leaks this weekend. I have two questions, I hope you can help me with. first, since this is a japan tractor if I order a manual and a parts manual will it be in japanese or english? My second question, while I was fixing the oil leaks today I noticed the valve cover was leaking and the bolts were lose. I tightend the bolts thinking it would solve my leaking. Then I tried to start the trator, and nothing happend. I had to losen the bolts back up get the tractor to start. I think, I was adjusting the valves but Im not sure. If I was, what is the proper way to make sure I have them set right? I would guess, that if I replace the seals and gaskets in the valve cover it will fix the leaks. I dont want to damage the engine, by having the valves set wrong. Thank you, for any help.

Welcome aboard hillbilly.

I have an L175 that is more or less the American market 2WD equivalent of your L1500. The same thing happened to me when I first got the tractor, somehow the vavle cover bolts effect the valves, it shouldn't happen, but it does.

Here is what Service Dept Vic told me:
Hi Robert,

Valve lash on your L-175's Z750 engine is as follows:

0.007-.009 inch, engine cold, cylinder at TDC.
If your engine is the same (Z750), order a vavle cover gasket gasket for the L175 and also get the two gaskets for the bolts. The whole thing came to less than $20.00 a few years ago.

No idea on getting the manuals, I found a .pdf parts manual for mine on the web somewhere, and never have gotten an operators manual.

If tightening the rocker bolts stops the engine from starting then its probably compressing the valves because the decompression lever/cable is frozen or not properly adjusted.
Just make sure the decompression button is fully in and there is a little free play on the lever on the rocker cover .If no free play then disconnect the cable to make sure the lever moves showing the shaft is not seized, pull the button to make sure the cable is free.
If both are free then adjust the cable !

If your tractor decompession set up is not the same system as mine ...then Pass!
