V1505 cranks but won’t start

Hi all I’ve got a kubota engine that turns over ok but will not fire into life. I’ve had the injector pump looked at and it appears to be working ok. I’m still at a loss why it won’t kick into life any help would be appreciated.

Does it have working glow plugs?

Do you know how to deal with bleeding the fuel injectors?

What is the history of the engine?

i Dave it’s very odd i have had it running and working and I’ve stopped it and have come back to it and nothing. I’ve bleed to fuel it’s been to the sparkys checked the battery and plugs replaced the fuel solinoid thinking that might be the issue. The engine hasn’t done a lot of hours and has been serviced. My only thought is it has to be the timing or something controlling the injectors

When it cranks do you get any smoke? Black, white, ? Is this in a tractor- if so what model? You may be aware there are several fuel solenoid set-ups. Some require power to run, some require power to shut off, and some have dual-coil (both to pull in and one to hold). Do you know how yours is supposed to work?

The solinoid pushes a pin to turn the fuel shutoff slide over. I’ve had it out and pulled/pushed it with pliers to make sure it wasn’t stuck. Unfortunately it’s not in a tractor I use it as a aux motor to ran my paint pumps on my truck so all it does is turn the hydro motor and air compressor

I'll second the question does it smoke while it's cranking?
Have you bleed the fuel lines to each cylinder?

It’s been a week or so and I can’t remember I might pop into work tomorrow and check if it is blowing Smoke what would the next thing be?

Crack the injector lines and crank till you get clean bubble free fuel to the injectors.

Did you remove the injector pump to have it looked at?

I remember reading that cracking the fuel lines to the injectors, at the pump end, can cause issues. Perhaps due to o-ring damage or something like that?

Also not sure how removing and replacing the pump can affect timing if you do not do it properly.

Just a couple thoughts. Adding this info could bring more helpful answers...

Yeah the pumps been off and to a “specialist” a couple of times and they reckon it’s ok but I have my doubts. Exactly different ways of thinking can bring different solutions.

The timing is set by shims between the injection pump and the engine. Hopefully you know that they were there and kept up with them until the pump was reinstated.

Yup all my reseach shows that shims can adjust the timing to variring degrees. The only time I’ve pulled the pump off there was no shims there, that’s not to say the people before me didn’t cock it up. If this is the case are they something I can purchase or is it easy enough to make some from shim material. Cheers lucas

I would think that the design would be done so that there is always a shim needed but others with more intimate knowledge will have to help you with that information.. But if it ran before in the same assembled conditions then I don’t think that timing is your problem. The timing is constant once assembled. It can NOT change by itself. It has to be manipulated by adding or removing a shim.

So just confirm that it has run (well) before wither the same pump installed and never removed since it would run.

Yup the engine has run fine it died one day and has never been right since. I’ll take it somewhere and it’ll run for no more than a day and then I’ll try and restart it and nothing

So it’s 856am and I’ve bleed it and it’s running I’ll leave it running for a while and turn it off then try again. I get to this point and think yay I’ve fixed it but then when I come back and try it again it all turns to shit. I’ll keep you posted.

So 1/2 hour of running and a 1/2 hour cool down and it kicks back into life I’ll leave it for a day or so now and see what happens. I don’t know if me pulling things apart and putting them back has some how do it but I don’t care as long as it works.
