G'Day all,

I have a V-1902 engine, marinized by the Nanni co, in our sailboat. It has arou nd 5000 hours use, and has recently started leaking fuel around the delivery valve housing (for the #1 cylinder) on top of the injector pump. Engine runs normally.

There is an o-ring at the base of the threaded housing, and from what I can gather, it is a common failure point. I have been advised that while it is easy enough to replace the o-ring, it is highly likely that the "fuel flow calibration" will be lost for that cylinder during the removal and replacement.

My questions:

Is that a serious worry?
Is there anything that I can do to minimize the chance of this problem occurring?
What is a good on-line source of a shop manual for this engine?

Any other advice?

Thanks from a new member!

That is a load of horse excrement! :p

You can replace those O-rings without changing a thing well besides eliminating the leak and making the injector work better. ;)

NIW is correct! Blow of the top of the injection pump or use carb/parts cleaner in a can. Since this on a boat with that many hours on it. I would get all 4 o-rings and delivery valve washers.

Shut off the fuel, remove all injector lines, remove the valve cap. Then I use a 1lb magnet to extract the body and plunger valve and then have a 90 degree o ring pick to pluck out the washer. As the service manual "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"

Turn on fuel, and bleed the injection pump and then lines.

I think that's engineerspeak, for it'
ll miss till fuel starts pumping through the line, maybe 30 seconds, or so...

G'Day gentlemen,

Thanks for the advice. I'm happy to report that I successfully replaced the o-ring and washer as you suggested, and the engine runs normally, sans leak! For now I'm a happy camper.
