Lil Foot,
I use my "lawn Roller" for three things, #1 rolling my road after I blade it,
for "setting in" new seed beds when we plant, grass or wild flowers, and, Eric takes notes, for packing down the lawn after spring thaw and heave, We never have to do an aeration, no clay to compact, only topsoil and sand around here!

Yes after laying new sod you can roll a lawn then. And depending on climate and region I can see rolling a lawn after a heavy snow fall.

For me I use a different method and secret weapon when I install a new lawn with bare dirt and new seed. I take a leaf rake and turn it upside down so that the tines are facing up and apply light pressure and drag the rake across the lawn so it folds the topsoil and the seed together. Kinda like blending the seed in with the dirt. And then shake straw.

I currently do have a poly roller that was recently given to me and have had many other rollers that I have given away over the years. Never once have I used one on a lawn.
