Best bead-breaker I've ever used ! ! ! (BX2380 SSQA with no bucket or forks installed)

Unfortunately, when I was all done patching the tube on the TG1860 and put it all back together I heard a hissing noise.
Yup! Either my patch came loose or I had 2 leaks and didn't see them initially. Sidewall picked up some kind of staple or finishing nail.

Weird thing is, I never heard the noise until I lowered the TG back on the ground. Maybe the extra weight/pressure on the wheel was enough to pop my patch off

I used my 5200 with the bottom plow to change the tires on my VW. Wasn't fast but worked in a pinch.

i tried doing that to a set of ATV tires for my friend yesterday. took me over 1 hr to get 1 tire done, and that was using my nomar tire changer and the tractor.. they ended up taking the rest to a shop to get swapped. 20yr old tires and rims, it was like the rubber bead was welded lol. Never in my 20+ yrs of doing tires have i had to admit defeat. till those 10" buggers.

I just use a 2 inch long piece of 2 inch angle iron and a maul to break down beads. I put the side of the angle iron on the edge of the bead and hit it with the maul. I may have to do it a few times but it always works.

I have dealt with this occasionally. For small tire/wheel assemblies that actually fit in my shop press I have pressed on the bead of a 10" tire with an old brake drum or a 12" wheel, and for a 12" wheel I have pressed the bead down with a 14" wheel. It's a 20-ton press so im mostly limited by the strength of what i'm pressing with. This wouldn't help on any big tires that don't actually fit inside the press.

i originally purchased it back when i was racing motorcycles. after 10 tires it was pretty much paid for. i dont do that anymore, however i will never sell it. even if i only need it to do 4 off road tires in a year, i save $100 every time.

thats a great idea!! i need to get a press eventually. I was looking around the shop for anything i could rig up.

Same here. I would get a day out of a rear and two days out of a front on the track bike. Nomar paid for itself in one summer of tires. Went in on it with a friend and bought out his half when he sold his bike. I only change 1 or 2 moto tires per year now, but I also use it for the cars, trailers, etc.

My press is just an old HF 20 ton press. Anything you can get your hands on as cheap as you can get it, but the bigger the better of course. They are just a bunch of plate and a bottle jack, so i personally don't feel 'quality' is a big deal and I'd rather buy a bigger press of a cheaper brand than a smaller one of a 'nicer' brand.

And a press is only as good as all the bits and bobs you have to press with! I collect all kinds of random metal pipes/blocks/etc because you never know when you'll need something 'just so' to press on something else with.

Good luck with the tire fights, they can honestly be some of the hardest things I ever do as a mechanic. Usually the ancient stuff that's been on the rim for 15-20 years..
