I have an L3830 Grand series with HST and the LA513 loader. It's very lightly used (about 90 hours). I love the tractor but I wish I would have gone with a 45-50 HP model, or at least the larger FEL. I'd like more FEL capacity and I'd like to be able to use some of the neighbor's larger implements.

I spoke to the dealer last week and he recommended the MX5100 HST as an upgrade option. I'm ok with forgoing the rubber mat, tilt steering, and electronic dash that my Grand series has today. However, I was disappointed to see that the 3pt lift capacity is nearly 700 lbs less on the MX5100 than my L3830. Evidently the Grand series uses external pumps to gain the added capacity.

Now here's my question, is the 2300 lbs capacity on the MX5100 more than adequate or will I come to miss the added capacity? I use the tractor for cutting and clearing trails, planting food plots, and using the county planter for planting trees.

Second question, am I giving up a more rugged tractor in the Grand series by moving to a MX5100?

Thanks

rayc,
You missed the fact that the L3830 # was at 24" the number you quoted is at the three point, 24" back on the MX5100 is 2310lbs.

desotodino,
It is disheartening that the 3point capacity is less on the MX5100.
Several have said that the MX5100 are setup more like a standard L, But with better HP.

The MX is kind of in the middle, between a Grand L and Basic L. I actually like the more simple features of the MX over the Grand!

Looks like the MX has plenty of 3 pt lift and the L3830 has extra ordinary 3 pt lift.

You wont be giving up any "ruggedness" going with the MX5100, but gaining some instead... In my opinion the MX is much more tractor....

I appreciate all the great feedback, it's helpful in making this tough decision.

Bluegill, that's exactly the information I was looking for. Being just a "city boy", I don't have a good perspective on reasonable requirements for 3 pt lift capacity. All I know is that if I spend money to get a larger tractor, I shouldn't take a hit on lift capacity. You confirmed my suspicion that my current L3830 lift capacity is over the top and the MX5100 is reasonable capacity.

I also thumbed through the Land Pride catalog and look at the weight of all of the rear attachments, with a few exceptions, most were under 1000 pounds. Those that were in excess of 1000 lbs I don't expect to ever need.

BTW, I've been offered $15,500 for my 2006 L3830HST w/LA513 loader and 90 hours. That's against a $27,575 purchase price for the 2013 MX5100 w/Loader. Price would also be discounted by $1,000 if cash purchase. Are these reasonable numbers?

Thanks

More important are the loader specs. The MX5100 should be much higher.

Yes, those numbers look pretty good to me and seem in line.

I have a 3830 GST with the the QD 723 loader with 6 foot bucket and it seems to work pretty good.
