i have a 1980 model kubota L285, pto works and engages properly , but when you put trans in gear it will move but very slowly , even in higher gears really slow . i tried pulling a disk when i first got the tractor , it wouldnt pull , and i heard a grind in the trans area , how should i proceed and what should i be looking for . i pulled a finish mower yesterday , mower turned fine , tractor didn't move real fast but i heard no noice . as you can tell im fairly new to working on tractors...

My first thought is a worn out clutch.

There are some tractors that have an extra creeper gear set on top of the transmission.

Do you have a picture of the tractor that shows the area in front of the seat?

That tractor only has a Single stage clutch so if the PTO is turning and not slowing down with tractor movement, it sounds like you have a transmission issue.
If it was in a creeper gear it would have a lot of power, especially to pull a disk, although it would be rather slow.
Does the tractor move without the PTO running?
Or is it just always really slow moving?
Or not moving at all?
If moving will it climb grades?
