There is a grease fitting on my steering shaft just before the gearbox and just after the universal joint. I find no mention of it in the owners' manual.
I tried to get a little grease into it, but it would not take any. Does anyone know what this fitting is greasing ? I see no movement that would need grease here.
Thanks for the help.
Pete ps: Machine is L3301 2016 Model

That's not a grease Zerk, it's a bleeder valve, do not force grease in there.
It's probably to let condensation out of the joint, or air on assembly.

Isn't there a splined connection at that fitting? I'll look at one...but I think there is. The shaft is splined and the steering gear is splined to the shaft, grease fitting is there. I think. I'll look at one tomorrow.

Blondie70,
My apologies, Lugbot is right that is a grease zerk, but you will have to loosen or remove the bleeder out of the other side in order to put grease in there.

Well that will teach me to look at blue prints in small view.

Thanks Lugbolt for setting me strait! ;)

Thanks gents. I will get it in the sun tomorrow and have a look for that plug to remove to pump grease in.
Which leads me to another question/observation.....on the front axle support there are 2 grease fittings and 2 vent plugs...book sez to remove plugs and pump grease until it comes out....but...one can see the plugs have a pop off top....the first time I pulled the plugs...second time I eased grease into it until it came out the pop off/lid on the plug......seems like a no brainer just to pump grease until it comes out the vent plugs instead of pulling the plugs each time?????? What do you guys think ?:)
