The specs for my M4000 say to use “Turbine Oil SAE 80” for the power steering. Kubota here has never heard of Turbine Oil. What do I use?

your Mobil fluids depot/professional can get it for you.
similiar to hydraulic oil.
not something PepBoys or similar would carry I suppose.
if you be dead set on using turbine oile then something like SHC 918 which is most modern or VG 32, 46 and 68 are options
I havent heard anyone use the term turbine oil for a lot of years.
most I know refer to it as compressor oil.

I was curious about the mil numbers and such dealing with turbine engine oils at work. The stuff "expires" and I love anything I can reuse.

Turbine oil js a standard product sold under a lot of different brand names. Mobil DTE is one of the more common ones.
Turbine oil is commonly used in industrial machinery and usually marketed by ISO viscosity grade not SAE. In the Mobil line SAE 80 would be DTE Medium or Heavy Medium. I would probably opt for the Medium. If you only need a small quantity McMaster is a convenient source.

Sleeve bearings on larger electric motors will use that. If there is a large electric motor repair shop on your island they would probably have a drum of it. Or some utility generation plant would probably have it.
Yes... there is a 2.1 quart reservoir. It is not part of the transmission.

Since it's running a hydraulic cylinder can I just use the standard Kubota Hydraulic Oil?
I found the answer in an old shop manual for the tractor: The shop manual says to use Gear Oil SAE 80... see attached. Thanks for everyones help... must have been a translation issue back in the day.

I would take that description as the transmission sump and tractor hydraulic system. But it is probably the same oil in both tanks (tractor and power steering).
For my L185 the manual requires the SAE 80 gear oil for the transmission sump. Now it is recommended to use something similar to Kubota UDT. I personally use Tractor Supply universal tractor hydraulic fluid.

Regular UDT or any premium UTTO is an SAE 80 gear,/hydraulic oil. I doubt a turbine oil formulation is actually required. As someone said possibly a language issue.

I’m feeling that Our Opinions…are not equal to “Kubota Approval”….. therefore, while it’s likely just fine to use Kubota UDT or SUDT2, etc…. do not accept that as any “basis of approval”. I think if I owned a M4000… I”d use Turbine Oil 80 if I could find it…(Mystik at Blaines and Chevron Turbine Oils both are found online) …. Failing that, I’d select Kubota UDT….and LAST I’d use 80/90 Gear OIl (because it appears the OP’s finding it in the M4000 WSM probably applies specifically to the transmission. Just my opinion. (and I”m a person who really likes gear oil and keep lots of it on hand for various reasons.)
