Hi, my friend's 5460 stopped running and on investigation at the local Kubota dealer they found a metal ring - see below. As he refuels from a pumped filtered tank it is hard to see how this got into the tank. The question is does anyone know if it is a Kubota part as we wonder if it was in there from the factory ?

What is the check valve for?

Edited to add: It is part of the fuel tank system. Part #50. Hopefully they found Part #60, because that piece looks like it could easily get sucked up to the pickup tube and causing a loss of fuel pressure until the engine is shut off.

2 fuel tank system. A rudimentary check valve. It's diameter could allow part #s 50, 60 and 70 get sucked into either tank. But most probably in hose #30 or tank A103.

Engine draws most likely from tank A103.

I hope that you find them.

Thanks , what is disappointing is the Kubota Dealership ( who charged >$2K ) said they could not identify the parts they found causing the blockage ! Hence why I posted the question ! He is off to have a chat with them now

As @chim mentioned, part #60 is the real problem. A ring could go around for years in the tank with no issue. A flapper, not so much.
They need to find the flapper- gate #60.

so a little history on this issue. The tractor would lose power on side slopes. I thought it might be the fuel filter so I changed it. I never got it started after that even following there procedures for bleeding the system. So I had it hauled to the dealer. So today after my friend sent the info from this site I was in the city so I went by the dealer. So the dealer didn’t have much to say. When they found the valve parts they said they looked in the parts book but found nothing that looked like the parts they found. Didn’t really know why the valve was there. Had know idea where the white flapper/valve was. Couldn’t explain how the valve was sideways in the cross over tube. Couldn’t explain where the clamp was that held the valve in place. So I’m thinking the factory failed to install the clamp that holds the valve in place allowing it to turn side ways. I’m still questioning how it cost $2200 to pull the tanks clean them and replace the sending unit that they say was bad. He also said that the small pieces of aluminum, from the seal on additive bottles, would have caused the fuel pick up to fail causing loss of power. Problem is they got it running before they started chasing the sending unit issue. I’m not sure how big the pick up is put the slivers of aluminum wouldn’t cover half of a dime. Thanks for the input.

Thank you for the story and update.

There is a message here. Remove the foil covers from oil / additives bottles completely.

But it still smells very funny to me.

So is part #50 inside the crossover hose on the driverside of the tractor?

Y'all got me wondering since I ripped that hose out from the passenger tank and bent the heck out of the guard several weeks ago.

Yea I feel the same way. I just won’t be going to KC. Lawrence is the next closest dealer. To many inconsistencies In there stories.

I would be curious the book time on pulling the tanks on these tractors. They do kind of look like a mother to pull. As long as they actually did though and didn't just clean them where they sit.

As far as the sending unit (unless we're talking about the pickup and not the fuel level sending unit), that was most likely just swapped out and not tested, but who knows. You could ask for the old part back, throw your multimeter on there, check the resistance, and see if she is in fact still good.

Which if your gauge was still reading properly, it most likely would be.

I can't remember what mine tested at a while back when i thought i was having a level issue. Something like 4ohms full and just over 100ish empty.

Hopefully she was nasty/rusty or something was obviously damaged, and they didn't just play swaptronics with your wallet. In the automotive world the inexperience will get you long before a crooked tech will.

Edit... Had to go look at my post from beginning of the year.
