Trying to get a ROPS for an L4150

I am trying to get ahold of a fold-down ROPS for my 1989 L4150. It didn't have any ROPS when I bought it and although there are many of these tractors with ROPS I called my local Kubota dealer and they said Kubota doesn't sell a ROPS for this tractor. I was really surprised. Any idea of how I might get one? My property has a lot of hills so I really need to install one. Thanks.

Have you tried "any" of the tractor bone yards? Some are in the mid west

It looks like the tractor originally had a FIXED ROPS on it, so it should have the mounting points. One could always be fabricated.

Could try contacting local tractor "salvage yards"... SSTractorSalvage

I've had a spare one for years in my pile of surplus great stuff. It's full height, not folding, which with Ag tires is around 7-1/2 feet. I bought it as a backup when I chopped one to go into my garage. Sold the tractor with the chopped one - so this one sits.

I don't think there was ever a folding type made for the L3 chassis models (L3350 L3750 L4150 L4350 L4850 L5450). Check to see that you have the support flanges for the bolts at the fenders. Free if you want it - picked up in MA. Dick B.

Wow thank you! I do think I have the place for it to be mounted but I’ll double check. Where are you in MA? I’m in MI so I’m trying to figure out how I might get to you.

Thanks everyone for the great replies. Yes I do have a post on the Forestry Forum right after I bought the tractor about a month ago. It’s my first one so I’m really enjoying owning it.

The roll bar is a bit bulky and heavy so may be $pendy to ship by the usual suspects (UPS, DHL, etc)

Its about 4' wide, 3' high and the bottom flanges are maybe 7" x 12", weight is around 75 lb (all guestimates)

The bar was used when I picked it up for cheap many years ago in VT - stored outside so isn't beautiful but its mostly grey - a quick wire brush and rattle can paint job would help its looks.

For shipping tractor parts, I've used this "haul schedule" in the past. Sending you a PM with my contact info. Dick B.

Thank you sir! I will go to the PM. I really appreciate the help with this. I did check my tractor and it has the 4 bolts on each side where it would mont on top of the fender. Still loose from who ever removed the last one.

I agree, such a kind offer from rbargeron! It will be really nice to have something that is designed to bolt right up. I took a look at the tractor and it still has the bolts where it is supposed to be mounted.

I dug it out of the heap - and here it is !

It's 37" high above the fenders, 47" overall width at the flanges - weight is about 72 lb. (scale under one leg at a time 36 each)

I used to ship stuff like this by bus, greyhound etc. It was cheap and reliable. They ended service in 2022, alas. I’ve recently heard of a service that uses empty space on trucks. U-Ship has been around for quite a while.
Has spotty result reports.
They might be cost prohibitive for such a small item.

Thank you for the compliments on the avatar! I’m pretty sure he thinks he could drive the tractor already, haha. Yes I do have plans to add a seatbelt with the ROPS. From what I’ve heard sounds like it’s pretty crucial to have both.

Seat belts in a car retract in a collision so an airbag can protect them. A tractor roll-over happens slower but the theory is the same - keep the operator in a protected location.

Makes sense. Definitely would want to have it on, if God-forbid something happened.

Operating on sloped land can be tricky - the high side wheel can go over a rock hiding in the grass causing sudden upthrust. Wide-front axle machines are less prone to it but not immune. With some experience you'll go by your butt - always the best guide.
