OK guys I need some help here on a log spliter,,, the motor (HONDA) runs fine and the ram goes in and out no problem HOWEVER,, there seems to be very little pressure when spliting logs even small one 6/8 inch. Oil tank is full gas new oil in motor ok, it never seems to go into a high pressure mode like the pump isnt picking up enough oil, the morot never goes beyond its set running rate, like the govenor is not taking the load but the motor doesnt load up or stall,,, I have a bunch of wood to split and its just laying there waiting,,, Any ideas,,oh yeah its suppose to be 27 tons,, I am stimmied, I mean it cant be rocket sicence,,,can it?

I own one of these and it works great, never had a problem with it. Did you change the oil in the reservoir or check for low fluid level?

I would bleed the high pressure line going to the ram and see if it is actually putting out any pressure. I also would check the suction line for a leak like a loose fitting as a small leak causes big problems. :)

I'd suggest putting a pressure gauge in the high side just after the valve. Then put a knotty log on the splitter and see what kind of pressure you get on the gauge. It should go up to 1500 psi or maybe more. My initial guess is that you have a pump problem, but those 2 stage pumps are pretty rugged, or least mine is. I have a wood splitter that I built out of junk, used and new parts. My pump was a second hand one that the previous owner used old motor oil as hydraulic fluid. I've used it for 10 or 12 years now and it is still going. Please let us know what you find out. Good Luck!
