Transaxle whine when traveling

I have a bx23d that I bought used with 235 ours. The transaxle whines when traveling (not while operating the hoe or loader). The trans was low on fluid by a gallon. Previous user (abuser) never checked it, I guess. Trans is full, but noticed that the fluid is foamy and the trans sounds like it's caveating. I filter change was no help. Thoughts on this?

Did you change the fluid when you did the filter?
It is hard to determine whether you have a problem or not- hydro's whine, and there will always be some gear noise. The question is, is your noise normal or not? Can you post a video, test drive another BX and see if it behaves the same, or have someone who is real familiar with a BX test drive it?

IF the fluid foams when full, there is a leak in the system allowing air to mix in the pump. Since the whine you hear is only while traveling, that means the main pump might have a bad seal. I would suggest first doing a full system drain, remove both filters and replace them and pull the screen and check for debris. Let it drain for at least a day, then put the new filters on and fill with fresh Kubota fluid and see if the fluid remains clear. The drive pump does whine, especially in high gear, it is completely normal, but the foaming is not.

Hodge, I am comparing it to my son's JD of equal size. His runs much quieter than mine. Trans fluid was changed with filter. I'm just wondering since the fluid is foamy which makes me think of air getting in.

I'm with hodge...a full service is wise, especially if its suspected previous owner neglected it.

All fluids and filters. Not bad idea to drain/refill front axle. Might be dry or close anyway.

Foaming can be a leak on the suction side of the hydraulic system. Could be cracked hose. A cracked line may not show as leaking, just a wet spot where the crack is allowing air in.

This is a tractor/loader/backhoe BX23D?
