Morning Everyone!

I need to pick up a trailer to haul my tractor around but know nothing about axle weights. What axle rating would I need to haul my tractor mentioned above, the rear tires are ballasted with water/antifreeze mixture.

The axle rating and GVW need to be sufficient to handle the weight of the trailer plus whatever you have loaded on it. I'd guess 10K minimum for that size tractor, 14K to have some margin.

Does that mean two 5K- 7K axles? or find a 10k or 14k axle?

Dont forget, a vehicle that can safely handle that type of gross weight. Braking being one of the chief concerns. also figure in the purchase of enough high tensile chains and binders for the tractor and any implements. straps wont do here.

A single axle trailer should not be considered.

At the minimum you'll need 10K (2 - 5K axles). Brakes should be on all four wheels.

Also, a flatbed would be advisable rather than a car hauler type (not with wheel wells).

Four dedicated chains and four ratchet binders are the the minimum for tie downs. One additional chain and binder in the rear to keep things from sliding forward on braking is also recommended.

Tie down to the frame of the tractor if possible. The brush guard and drawbar are tempting but not as secure as the axles. However, the front axle is live so shouldn't be used. Never use the FEL to tie down.

I'm sure that there are some truckers out there that can give some good advice.

What are you planning to tow the trailer and tractor with?
When you add the weight of the tractor (4675-5470 lbs, per tractordata), plus the weight of the trailer, plus the weight of the tow vehicle- it all has to be added together. Do you already have the tow vehicle, or are you looking for that, too?
