Trade or Repair

I just joined this group so I hope this goes like it’s supposed to. I have a GR2110 that I bought new in 2010 with a grass catcher and mulch kit for a little over 10k. It has worked great over the years but the wheels are starting to spin sometimes on inclines. It also acts like it wants to slide when making gradual turns while mowing on relatively level yard. Described this to Kubota service tech and he said probably clutches and transmission wearing out. He said it could probably cost 4 to 6k to have it repaired and the older GR models have been known to have these problem. So now I’m thinking trade it in and get a new GR2120. The 2110 has been garage kept and serviced regularly. Does anyone know if Kubota has made corrections in the design f the GR? I realize it would be hard to say but can anyone give a ballpark figure on a trade in? Should I expect $500 or $2000? Would I do better to just have it repaired? Any knowledge or opinion would be appreciated.

This sounds like a Tire problem….not clutches or transmission. How old are your tires? Have they lost significant tread…? …or become hard and lost traction?

I measured the treads on a new GR on the lot and compared them to mine. Mine are about half the depth of new ones. They are the original tires

If the wheels are spinning and side-sliding on turns then the clutches should be okay.

I agree with GeoHorn. It's likely 'just' a tire problem, stemming from worn tread and age-hardened rubber.

New tires won't be cheap, but they'll be a LOT cheaper than a new mower.

I do believe your tires are tired. Trust me when I say the tires are much cheaper that a tranny rebuild. That's why I got rid of my GR 2110 and moved up to a BX.
