Tractor Time with Tim - LX3310 and RHINOAG TS10 Flex-Wing problems

I've started watching Tractor Time with Tim recently and enjoyed today's video about the challenges he faced trying to get a RHINOAG TS10 Flex-Wing hooked up to his LX3310. Short version ... he wasn't successful.

I don't think he bought the TS10 specifically for the Kubota since he talks about running it on a JD, but it sure would be annoying to make such a mistake.

That TS10 sure is slick .... looks very pricey though!

With some more thought I wonder if Kubota intentionally made this virtually impossible for their small tractors. In any case, 1000 lbs would have been a lot of weight to mow with a LX.

Looks like a perfect example of trying to use a implement that was never designed for that size tractor. I've seen several posts on FB with that cutter being put behind 30ish hp tractors. No way I would ever do that. Simply not enough tractor.

Reminds me of my buddy pulling his race car trailer with his Chevy Avalanche. Only about 6 miles to the drag strip. He made it there just fine. Coming home he hit a small bump. It swayed out of control and rolled. Totaled his truck, trailer and new race car. Again, perfect example of using something beyond it's limitations.

RHINOAG states in their literature that the TS10 is for tractors with 25hp to 60hp at the PTO, but regardless of hp I was surprised by all the issues Tim faced with the 3310. I like solving problems and it was interesting to see how Tim encountered issue after issue.

Tonque weight was significantly higher than stated by RHINOAG ... also interesting.

My understanding is the B and LX are similar to the JD 20 series. Kubota L and JD 30 series are similar.

I don't care what Rhino says. At some point common sense has to kick in and realize no 25 hp tractor should have a 10' cutter behind it. To me it's just asking to get somebody killed. With more new owners trying things like this before long a heart broken family member is going to have to share their story about a loved one killed. I suspect it will involve going down a hill trying to stop or turn and then a severe roll over.

I honestly hope it never happens. I for one would never suggest to anyone put a cutter like that behind a compact tractor. To many new owners out there with no experience. My 40+ years of farm and heavy equipment experience says that is a bad idea.

Much too much mower for a 3310, and for a multitude of reasons.

I don't care what Rhino says. .... To many new owners out there with no experience. My 40+ years of farm and heavy equipment experience says that is a bad idea.

That's the point I was trying to make ... RHINOAG should be advising customers in a responsible manner and not setting people up for failure.

I think Land Pride does a good job of looking out for their customers with hp ratings and the like.

Tim goes on again and again in the comments to point out that the compatible JD compact handles the mower just fine. Still seems like a lot of weight behind a machine of that size to me.

Yeah, Tim is sometimes too much on the JD bandwagon. Personally, I would have sold all of my JD after them threatening him because he had yellow on his graphics. I don’t get that at all because he was only selling JDs. Now he has orange and had blue for a while. Fwiw, one of the reasons I didn’t even consider a JD.

My guess is the LX manual says somethng about maximum weight for rear attachments, and it is probably not 1000 lbs.

I wouldn’t pull a 1000lb implement behind my tractor. The manuals ALL give guidance on what is safe and what the limits are of the tractors. I haul a 40 ft horse trailer. (With my 350 dually not my tractor lol) One of the things that many don’t think about when hauling trailers, not can you pull it but can you STOP IT !. There are more things to consider than “can I attach the implement to my tractor and pull it?” Darwin is unforgiving.

side note, if anyone hasn’t downloaded the my Kubota App, I highly recommend it. You need internet service for it to work, but you scan a QR code on your machine and can access the manual and step by step maintenance instructions on your smart phone or tablet. Handy when you are trying to remember something and don’t want to walk back in the house for a manual.

So the LX3310 is rated for a 3,300 lb loaded trailer but can't pull a Flex-Wing at 2,190 lb? That doesn't make any sense. Is the mower rating for mounting on the 3-point? The Flex-Wing is pulled on the drawbar.

I think the limit has to do with the activity not just the weight being pulled or being lifted.

A rotary cutter is typically supported by the tail wheel and the lower link arms. As others have noted, mowers can pull the rear end around on hills.

But when pulling the Flex-Wing it's going to articulate like a trailer so putting a lot less turning torque on the tractor i.e. it's much less likely to impart lateral loads to the tractor.
