Try one before you buy! They are painfully slow! Tractor hydraulics are plenty strong, but low volume. I wouldn't want to burn the fuel and put the hours on my rigs to split wood that slow.

I have a Super Split that I absolutely love, but most any lower priced hydro splitter would be better than a 3 pt unit!

I was looking at the exact same route but would have to plum the hydro lines and such. Went with the Huskee 22ton log splitter on sale at $999. If you are military you get a 10%. I picked mine up for $899. If you need you can tow the splitter somewhere else and not have to drag the tractor on a trailer, etc.

I agree- spend the money on an engine-driven log splitter. It will be more flexible, and more productive.

Does this thinking apply to chippers too? Stand alone or PTO?

Does anybody know if they make a PTO driven mechanical splitter. Like the supersplit, speedpro, or DR RapidFire, but on a PTO scale...

No, never seen one. Why run the tractor when all it takes is 4hp to run one? ;)

I've had a Super Split for 3 years now and it is by far the best piece of firewood equipment I ever bought, well except for my first 346xp... It's also fun to run!

The Speed Pro was junk and discontinued and the Rapid Fire isn't much better.
