I'm considering the purchase of a used Kubota tractor. I have 3 acres, one half of which is kept maintained. However, my yard is in need of significant landscaping, which is one of the reasons for the tractor. I need direction on which model I should try to purchase. I want one that will accept a loader that is large enough to move dirt, effectively. I also plan to use the loader to smooth out the dirt. I assume I'll get a 4x4 tractor. Assuming I've given enough information, what should I be looking for?
Greg, again if you can add some more information, the dirt do you plan on digging in the dirt or moving dirt from one pile to another?
Also smoothing out an area can be done with a bucket and some guys can do a really good job back dragging with the bucket, though most of us not so much.
If your ground, I am assuming a home is already there, is pretty torn up a land plane would be your best bet, while a back blade can be used, again a pretty steep learning curve.
A 54 or 60 inch MMM will do an admiral job, as I have chopped up some pretty nasty stuff with both the B and the BX, and you can. Again taking your time, you can get a close cut around trees and house and landscaping projects.
Try to get at least the MMM and FEL with your tractor, the rest will follow. Trying to find stuff for a several year old tractor of any make, can be very time consuming and expencive.
A BX sounds like what you need, easy to move around, really good on fuel, easy on and off and very stable on hills. Kubota as far as I know still has 0% and last time I was past my dealer they had just about everything you might need.
So what ever color tractor you go with, remember it is a SMALL tractor and not a 988, so slow and easy. Plan each step and then think about it again, cause things can go sideways in a heart beat on a tractor.
