Toolbox Upgrade

If anyone is interested in upgrading their tractor toolbox, Home Depot has this "odd" color box Christmas priced for only $8. A much more handy size than those silly boxes that some of the models come with... (Mine was removed by the prior owner.) Enough room to pack a lunch for those cross country treks. Ice up a beer. Hide your wife's birthday present in it. You name it. Depending on how heavy you load it, you may have to upgrade the attachment frame but, for light duty, a couple of fender washers will do fine.

It has a rain lip on the lower case lip so it should keep most of the moisture out when washing or working in snow/wet.

Double check the water tightness.
Are there holes where the handle goes into the top, most designs do.

How do I know this ... I've had Rusty tools... and they suck!

Yeah, my current $1.98 box leaks. No Bueno.

This Homer box has a snap in handle with no perforations in the lid and, the lid has a small lip on the box portion the lid fits over. I'll hose mine down and report back.

I have another Flambeau box that is similar with a much higher lip but its boring gray colored. That'll never do.

UPDATE: I guess the Flambeau will have to do. This one is water tight except for behind the latches and a few drips found their way inside.

I made that mistake myself. Once I determined it wasn't waterproof it was relegated to the barn.

My old watertight metal Craftsman tool box is still being used on the tractor.

I put the Homer box on mine. Works good. Water does fill up the handle area, but doesn't go inside.

I use a 50 cal ammo box, sprayed Kubota orange. My dealer gave me a OEM tool box and mount but the OEM box was is cheap (crappy hinges and latches) and doomed to fail in the first few months, plus it was a little small. However, the OEM mount is very stout. The ammo tin is large enough and very water proof. Cheap too

One quick fix if it's just the handle location leaking and you don't mind the handle up all the time is to hot melt glue, epoxy, or silicone the holes shut.

The top is a sealed unit with the handle snapping in outside of the top so the lid will never leak. The leak is behind the latches. You could probably solve it with foam sealer but I have two other boxes I bought at the thrift store for this purpose. One is a 1950's toolbox that is straight but rough. It would look pretty cool in Kubota Orange II. Or the grey Flambeau.

So many choices. So little time.

I also use ammo boxes. They have a water tight rubber seal and everything stays dry. I have two of them mounted on my tractor.
