The exhaust (less than one year old) is awfully loud on my 7200. Any suggestions on a quieter muffler? Would turning it down to the horizontal position help? Would an automotive exhaust fabricated onto the existing mount be too much back pressure? I'm just fishing for thoughts on this.

First step might be get some good headphones (type for shooting) that block out the sound while allowing normal sounds to come through. Then maybe find a way to silence the exhaust.

I wear hearing protection on both the L and the B. Tractors are loud. Hopefully your muffler isn’t going away after only a year.

Go to the Harley dealer and ask for one of the take-offs. Harley's, I was told leave the factory quiet, but the mufflers are the first thing that gets replaced when the bike is sold.

Are you talking B7200?
And is the muffler a year old because the tractor certainly isn't.
And if the muffler is a year old, where did you get it from?

I prefer the foam roll-up earplugs...the ones that are tapered for your pleasure.

This is kind of subjective. As tractors go the factory muffler on a B7200 (??) is not particularly loud. The aftermarket replacement. I have on mine is about the same. Louder than my truck but not in the Harley class.

Fitting an automotive muffler isnt a back pressure issue but the pipe is pretty small and you need to watch the weight.

You could be hearing engine noise. Try switching to synthetic oil and/or check the oil level. On most diesels I've heard, you can't hear the exhaust over the engine noise.
