Tire chains for a 2024 Kubota BX1880

I purchased a new BX1880 which came with a front loader and a mower. My intensions are to use it to move snow in the winter. We live in the mountains so nothing is level. Could someone recommend what chains I should get? The mower has turf tires and I don't have plans to to buy other tires. Just the rear tires or all four. I'm also considering getting a ballast box. Thanks for the help!

I just use ladder chains on rears;,some do all four.

A BX doesn’t have a lot of space in the wheel well. Many guys like to put spacers on. I haven’t but many do.

First welcome, second what kind of tires did you get? And 3rd before you put chains on, unless things have changed the clearance between the side wall and things underneath are a bit close so you might want to check that out. Im not sure where Waynesboro is but I'm in the Laurel Highlands more or less and my BX has no chains. That being said, I do have the back tires filled ( R4) and have never felt the need for chains. But to each his own. The ballast box will be a good addition when using the FEL ! And you do not want to fill the front tires with a FEL, its really hard on things. And a few things to remember, 1 look at the job think it through, then think it through again, remember things can go side ways real quick. 2 Don't run with the FEL up in the air, it makes the whole platform rather unstable and will lay one its side and play dead! 3 mowing up and down steep inclines never side to side. Seat belt, yes it is a PIA but it is there to save you should your toy,,,errr I meant tool decide to roll over and play dead. Remember common sense is the most important thing when working with a tractor, and remember also it is a SMALL tractor,, capable but small dont expect it to work like a 988. If you put chains on the tractor, make sure to get spacers, and should you break a chain, stop immediately and fix it. The hydraulic piping is just forward of the tire and to the inside of the tire. Not much room for a mistake or a flailing broken chain. I have a weight box on the rear of my BX23S with over 600 pounds of weight in it. I also have filled rear tires, and have never needed chains. I have them but I don't ever use them. If you are going to be moving snow with your loader, get a set of "edge tamers" for the bucket. A snowblower or front plow is the preferred method unless you have a very short driveway.

A ballast box is a must. Put around 250 lbs in it. Mine has saved my butt many times when lifting. Also, a quick attach for your 3 point is great to have. Unless you like to always get off your tractor when hooking up, this will a great addition. Some like the other kind but I like mine.

Turf tires, not filled, no spacers. Use it primarily for mowing but I’ve moved a LOT of snow with it.

I have chains both front and back – zero issues with rear fender clearances or turning the front wheels. Without chains on the front steering is challenging once the bucket starts to get full, it can tend to pull sideways.

Some old chains I had from a 26hp Craftsman lawn tractor fit perfectly. Can’t remember where I got them but “tire chains dot com” seems familiar – shop around. Make sure you get spring tensioners for each wheel to pull the chains tight. Note - my pictures show the rear without spring tensioners but I do use them.

REAR WEIGHT IS MANDATORY!!! Snow or dirt. Do not operate without it!
Rear wheel weights off the old craftsman, threaded rod cut to size, washers and bolts, fit right on.

DO NOT get the rear ballast box shown in my pictures if you decide to get one in the future. The lower pins are set too fat back and will not connect to a Quick Hitch (highly recommended).

With just a bucket you’ll be doing a lot back-and-forth depending on how much snow you get, but it gets the job done. A rear mount blower is definitely on my wish list since I don’t have third function hydraulics on the front. A cab would be great also, I get a lot of wind here.

Ladder chains with turf tires are probably perfect.

With R4 tires my experience with my B series tractor is that they fall between the lugs. Not great.

My son in law got a different style chains for his BX and they are great. BUT not ladder. I forget what they are called.

Think about this carefully, as chains are not cheap...
