Time to Replace my 40-Year Old B7100

It's served me admirably for 30 years, but I want a few things now. Main thing is ROPS as I spend time on hillsides and want to reduce my risk of injury. I want 4WD, wet brakes, and a slightly wider stance would be best - more ground height is NOT needed (or wanted). I want the center of gravity low. The budget is 5-10k.

I guess the reason for this post is I'm wanting to learn if a particular model in the 15-25 HP range stands out for stability and use on hillsides. I've reviewed a lot of specs from tractordata, and can't really tell - the overall proportions of all this class tractor seem pretty similar.

I use it for tilling, bush-hogging, trailer pulling, box-blade work, raking and have a slip-scoop.

Not to disuade you, but Kubota USA has (or at least had) a ROPS program where they would provide a B7100 with a ROPS for minimal cost. Also, have you already widened the stance? The B7100 has adjustable width on the rear axle.

With your budget, you are looking at an older used machine. Around here, that kind of money will get you a used 4wd B7100 or similar. Not sure what the market is like in Indiana though.

There seem to be lots of offerings for 10k here - above is just the first one I saw. Yes - I have the rear wheels in their outermost position already. I'd be astonished if my Kubota dealer did anything besides laugh if I inquired about them fitting this 40+ year old B7100 with ROPS. (Mine is a 1st gen B7100, from the 80's)

Yes 10K gets an older used machine, but not as old or used as the one I have now

Since you don't use a MMM, maybe mount a heavy plate of steel there to lower the CofG ?

My B1750HST with 668 hours, bought new in 1993 has a ROPS, will be for sale soon and is in Indiana.

No wet brakes but it does have Bi-Speed Turn, 60" MMM with little used powered grass catcher, and has been wet only twice when I've sprayed it off.

Best thing that I've ever bought but I'm relocating soon.

None of mine are ever outside when raining or on wet ground and all are always cleaned with compressed air before return to the barn. They do not get dirty.

It doesn't move dirt. It is used for mowing and plowing snow and is not taken into mud or wet conditions.

Accumulated dust/mowing debris is easily and regularly blown off with compressed air.

Two of my other tractors are used to move dirt with FELs but not in wet conditions. Again, dust, etc., is easily and regularly blown off with compressed air.

Others are used for mowing only. Dust/debris easily and regularly blown off with compressed air.

Pretty sure it’s in wet conditions when plowing snow. Can’t say I’ve ever done snow removal even on a sunny day and things don’t get a little wet. Water won’t hurt your tractor. I too use compressed air but it still won’t clean it like soap and water. One thing about owning your own tractor is you make the rules. I don’t think only been wet 2 times in 30 years adds any value though.

It will if you do not allow it to get dirty. Of course sheet metal has good wax.

Agreed, regarding own rules and it does add value to me and to potential buyers because it looks (and is) much, much better than others of similar vintage.
