Tiller depth

What is the proper way to control the depth of a PTO mounted tiller. Should it be by using the skid plates on the tiller or should they be raised all the way up and control depth with the three point hitch?

I tilled today in much too wet conditions because I***8217;m impatient and couldn***8217;t wait for it to dry up. I was using the skid plates to control the depth with the three point all the way down and went much too deep. I was using my B2650 if that makes a difference.

I always use the skid plate to control my depth.

You went to deep because it was wet ground.

Patience is a virtue that people don't exhibit much today. Tilling wet soil equals cement in the end.

I'd love to plant my garden, taters are cut and in the cellar, corn is ready to put in, cukes and zukes ready too but the ground isn't.

Always skid shoes, never 3 point.

Take a handful of dirt and squeeze it into a ball. If you can't crumble it then the ground is too wet to fill. You will turn it to concrete as has been said above
