I have a kubota gl 1100 kw generator It is powered by a d722 engine. It has 4800+ hrs on it. For some time now it has been blowing out a grayish white smoke. It dosen't use much oil, and it has never been low on coolant. I give it regular oil changes, including all filters. I have checked the valve clearance 3 times, and only once have I had to adjust them. Lately it's lost power, its not firing on clyinder #2 . I've bled the fuel lines, and traded injectors from cly #1, and it still won't fire. When I bled the fuel lines, each cyl except #2 will fall out when I loosen the nut on the fuel line. I haven't done a compresson test yet. Anyone have an idea as what is going on ?

Well you have done all the right things so far but don't fight shy of that compression test which should eliminate valves, head gasket, rings and piston etc.
If they check out OK then the fuel delivery system will need further investigation.

It sounds like even though it isn't using much oil, there is something wrong with a gasket. I would imagine that the compression test would validate this. Other than the smoke, is there any effect on its performance? It might be time for a professional if you can't figure it out. Have you ever used angies list? It might be a place for you to find the right place.

I would think he has found the problem by now. I would blame an exhaust valve since it is blowing what sounds like unburned fuel. He didn't say how much blowby it had.
