A couple of days ago I heard a noise that sounded like a fan bearing giving up, but the computer keep doing it's thing. Then yesterday I turned it on and things were different. OTT would come up and I could read a thread, but pictures wouldn't post, and I'd get a message to try again later.

I fiddled with the router cables, unplugged, waited, tried again. No success. So I went outside and got away from it. This morning OTT works fine, even seems to load a bit quicker. Guess I'm just lucky, this ole box just won't give up!

If your fan stopped working, it wont be long and your computer board will be FRIED.

The problems you mentioned can easily be caused by components in your computer getting too HOT.

Open up the case and use a can of air to blow out the dust.

Most of the fans in computers just have some sort of bushing for bearings, put a drop of a silicone lubricant on the offending fan (there are multiple fans in there usually one for the hard drive one fore the mother board and one built into the graphics card.)

This may hold off the melt down a while YMMV

Could be the hard drive making noise. They only spin so long and then expire. Had that happen to my old laptop.

I now run a solid state hard drive (chipset). No 7200 rpm disc spinning inside and access speed is 10 times faster and no need to defrag either. The chipset is self cleaning.

This new (Dell) don't even have a cooling fan inside. Not needed.

Was it cheap, no. I don't think 1500 bucks for a laptop is cheap but you get what you pay for, I guess. I do know it's faster than this old fart is.

Touch screen, web cams, solid state hard drive (2TB), 1 gig RAM Windows 10 professional with programmers suite and more stuff than I'll ever use.

My cousin is a commercial Dell dealer.

If you do open the case up (to blow it out) be sure you are grounded to the computer and the computer is grounded to earth. They are very prone to static electricity cooking the internal parts.

Fans are easy to replace. I take it this is the one on the board, not in the power supply? (power supplies are easy to replace too...

Yep, I took the side off and spritzed some air to clean. Offending noise was only a short period of time, like 20-30 seconds. My HD is a Samsung solid state so it doesn't make noise. I did an internet speed test to determine if I had a local problem.

Just wondering if OTT has some hiccup? Did others notice anything with this site?
