agree with both above as plausible.

I highly recommend not operating that machine any further than necessary to diag the failure and locate the source of that broken part.

full function test may reveal the culprit. it's difficult to believe something that size breaking isn't preventing or at least inhibiting a major function in your machine. especially considering the amount of force exerted on it to break. since you haven't noticed a loss of function performance, might be something you seldom or never use that was accidentally engaged while mowing and you didn't notice movement or sound.

my first thought is it looks like a spool valve linkage or toggle, or possibly the spring bias or detent side of the spool.

I also recall a 140k grader that one of my mechanics found a big chunk of metal during a fluid change, fell out of the drain plug though. turned out to be a solenoid actuated neutral lock that worked in concert with the parking brake system. after contacting quinn we discovered there was a pip for it and the dealer repaired that machine and their field techs retrofitted the other machines.

as mentioned above, a thorough scan of the internal hydraulic system and final drive drawings should reveal something similar for some clues.

and once you figure out what it is and where it came from, don't forget to inspect for collateral damage to whatever components were gnawing on it.

Thank you....yes, after reading thru the replies, i went back to the parts diagrams and found the darn thing. You're spot on. It was part of the hydraulic controls under the three point housing. (I gave a detailed response to whitetiger. I hope you read it and can provide additional information! thank you

Does that “square thingy” slide up and down on the longer rod, or is it fixed?

Thank you....yes, after reading thru the replies, i went back to the parts diagrams and found the darn thing. You're spot on. It was part of the hydraulic controls under the three point housing. (I gave a detailed response to whitetiger. I hope you read it and can provide additional information! thank you

is the loss of power you refer to more of a stalling symptom? like hydraulic load/overload?

did the loss of power symptoms begin after the recent repairs you described? were they immediately noticeable or started gradually over time? how long?

a distinction needs to be made whether the engine is actually losing power or something is creating excessive load on the engine reducing its perceived work output.

sounds like you might be suspicious of something related to your repairs or that area of the hydraulic system. the short answer is yes, it is possible for a hydraulic system failure or malfunction to create internal load on the engine to give the operator a perceived loss of power.

a little more info regarding symptoms would help and knowing whether symptoms were first noticeable immediately after repairs or operational events where you mentioned stressing the machine.

Here’s a timeline of events:

-Last fall I had to replace the 3pt hitch housing cover. I'd snapped the top link connection point while digging a stump. Was prying on a root with my frame-mounted backhoe. It uses a top link connection for added strength.

-When I replaced the cover, I also had to swap the 3pt valve body over to the new cover. The draft linkage was missing at that time, but I didn't realize it. It was only after I recently identified the mystery part and went back to look at pictures that I discovered the draft linkage was not there. When I snapped the top link connection, it was a very sharp jolt. While I can't say for certain, I suspect the linkage separated at that time.....just from the sudden shock.

-After the replacing the cover, I only did light work. Did some snow blowing over the winter, etc.....nothing too taxing.

-This year, I start chopping my fields and begin experiencing power loss/engine bogging after 10-15 minutes of chopping on grades. Everything seems ok on more level ground.

-I changed the fuel filter......still power loss

-I change hydraulic filters.......discover the mystery part, later identified as part of the draft control linkage.

That leads me to where I am now........hoping to somewhat confirm that the lack of draft input to the valve body could impact engine performance.

I've ordered the parts to reconnect the linkage.

From what I can tell, there are still two components loose in the transmission housing....a bushing and a connection rod.

I'm "hoping" the problem is related to the linkage and not due to the loose parts blocking a port or something.

Incidentally, I started another thread related to power loss due to draft control.
