I made a trade + cash with a friend that had this RCR1272 brush cutter he no longer used. He wanted my little King Kutter 4 foot that I used behind my B7100.
Starting this coming growing season I need to do some maintenance mowing in my native species oak/savanna.
I will be hooking up to a HST L2501. Kubota recommends a 5 foot for it. My main mowing will be relatively sparse non-native species that bolt much sooner in the season than the natives. The intent is to cut these non-native species before they go to seed but before the natives bolt.
Being the lightest duty cutter Landpride sells it comes in about about 560 lbs. I will not be cutting any dense cold season grasses or any saplings of size.
I figured if it just does not work due to the size I can put it up for sale , go with a 5 footer and not lose any money.

I pushed a heavily built 6 ft deck for years with a 21.5 HP Kubota powered Steiner tractor on very hilly terrain (my yard). I don't think you will have any problems. I was cutting nothing higher than 7 inches probably though. Good luck.

Sounds like a good deal but it is both too heavy and too wide for your tractor.

Note: I did not say that it could not be done but it is both too heavy and too wide even in ideal conditions.

Could you expound on being too heavy? My understanding is that this cutter is still weighs 50% less than rated lift capacity 24 inches behind pins?

I find it interesting that Landpride Kubota matched document lists a 72 inch 745 pound cutter ok on the L3301 which has a three point lift capacity 24” behind the pins only 44 lbs more than the L2501 with a tractor weight about 150lbs heavier. Width is the same.

I agree with SDT it is a little wider than typically recommended for your tractor. You may be a little light on rear pto horse power but the reality is try it and see how it performs for your use, if you don’t find it to be great it will be easy to sell or swap for a 60” model.

I own both a 60” and a 72” Woods BBX rotary cutters, I would not put the 72” cutter onto my L series tractors due to both size Hp requiremenTs and weight. These cutters are a heavier built model but it is also about matching general size to the tractor. As I was researching buying my first tractor and trying to work out attachment sizing I kept coming across the general rule of 5 rear pto hp for each foot of attachment width. My first tractor was a L3200 that gave me 25 pto hp a great fit for 5’ wide attachments. I believe that rule to be a great guide as I feel it applied well. It is my experience that running attachments with lower hp results in fast performance loss.

From the sounds of what you are cutting PTO horsepower isn't going to be a problem. The size may push you around a bit if you have to mow slopes. The 5' Mohawk I used on my B7200 was way too big for the tractor but not a problem HP wise.

i maybe basing my expectations on pulling a 430 lb King Kutter 48 inch behind my 13 pto hp B7100. The 5 foot rule would dictate a cutter barely over 2 1/2 wide. I have pulled that thing in high gear cutting dense cool season grasses, 1 inch plus oak saplings, up and down hills without issues. Of course had to slow down in areas etc.

One thing I will do is give honest feed back here once I do start using the six footer behind the L2501.

I can’t speak to width but I pull an RCR1860 at 590lbs and cuts beautifully behind my 2501 so weight in my experience is not the limfac.

I just bought a Landpride rcr2072 cutter. But it will be used behind my new mx6000. A six footer seems a bit large for your tractor.

I have a RCF2072 that I used behind my L2501 HST with Loader on. I had no issues with it on my hill in L. I didn’t want to try M since it is so hilly. My field is probably not as thick as yours, but it was fine. It’s been very dry since spring, so I only cut it once.

I spent 2 1/2 hours this morning getting used to the size difference, coming from my B7100 HST with 4 foot King Kutter. The material I cut today was a lot of last seasons 2 1/2 foot to 3 foot tall knapweed stalks, oak and aspen re-sprouts and 12 inch high cool season grasses. My land has some fairly steep trails in sections and was concerned if I would need to cut in low gear. I never shifted out of medium, with the tach staying within the yellow PTO band.

The area that I mowed in the pictures is a area I will be using for parking. I am hosting a prairie/oak savanna "open house" event mid July.

As of this writing I could not be more pleased with the capability of the L2501 and how it handled this cutter. If anything changes for the worse I will report back.

I just bought a Landpride rcr2072 cutter. But it will be used behind my new mx6000. A six footer seems a bit large for your tractor.

Do you mean an RCF2072? I can't find an RCR2072. Not trying to be funny, just curious. I like looking at rotary cutter specs.

Well done for working out such a mutually beneficial exchange, and your place looks great!

I was all set to sell the Land Pride RCR1884 when I ordered a Del Morino offset hydraulic flail mower a couple of months ago, but @B737 made the point that they both have their uses. Boy was he right. After pulling the RCR1884 around this past weekend over 8 or 9 acres of hilly pasture there's no way I'm selling it now. Sometimes I think I should have opted for a heavier duty model, but it was expensive enough at the time and I didn't know what I needed so I'll try to keep it off the rocks and such. If I do upgrade it at some point I would most likely look closely at Woods products which seem to be very durable under the toughest of conditions.
