Well maybe its me because I dont understand the industry. Took the carb off that little honda motor for a good cleaning, well the shut of valve inthe line kinda shuts off the fuel, and when the carb ran out, there was enough of a trickle to fill the bowl back up and well there ya go. I need a gasket between the motor and the carb, call a parts dealer,, lots a luck there! Whats the motor number? Huh, I told you a GVC 160 black top. Yeah but what the number? What number? The motor number. HTF do I know !
Well I have to have the motor number to look up the part.
Dude its a vert shaft lawnmower motor, how many gaskets can there be?
I understand, whats the motor number?
HOW DO I KNOW?
Aren't you a repair shop?
No, I am just some jagoff working on a motor in his garage.
OH I understand, whats the motor number?
OK, WHERE DO I LOOK FOR THIS NUMBER?
If you dont know where it is,,, HOLD IT RIGHT THERE,,, DO YOU KNOW WHERE THE DAMNED NUMBER IS?
Sure I do,,,, well then where is IT ???
You have to take of the black cover on the motor and it is right there above the oil fill.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Thank you ,,under my breath *&^&^%^#^*&((&%$$%
Called back
OK heres the number, good wait til I look,,, No it is out of stock maybe 3 days

Yeah kind of sucks.
Honda has a lot of small motors. How is the poor guy on the other end of the phone to know what motor you have in front of you ?
My kids had the same make, year, and model of a US (?) car. One put together in Canada and the other in Mexico. Each had different part numbers for the radiator. Drove me nuts. 4 different part numbers and they did not use the same bolt pattern.

Cummins had gone to a call center for parts instead of talking to the local guy that has some skin in the deal.

Now if you call Cummins you get transferred to some yahoo working from home, sitting around in their undees eating cheetos. 😡😡🤬🤬🤬

You talk to the guy, get an order number, everything gets processed. You then are requested to do a survey at the end of the phone call to see how the person handled your order.

After you hang up, once the order goes to processing, the order gets canceled and you don't recieve your parts 🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡😡

There isn't any follow up period. And they have a perfect 5 star rating since they solicit responses upon order completion.

So now if I need anything Cummins, I have to make a special trip over to the dealership to get my parts ordered.

I really need to get Jeff's email address and start ordering through email instead.

I do that for deere parts already. And it's super easy. If they have a question, they just email me the parts diagram and ask for clarification. 😎😎😎😎

I've got 2 sets of these on the shelf . At $4 it seemed like a good thing to buy as I needed just ONE of the 3 in the 'kit'. The 'fun' is getting all the spacers and gaskets in the correct order. Hint.. you need 2, 3/16" drill bits and a minute to do it.

As for the 'counter help'.... ever since computers, heck 'microfiche' came out parts people become 'lookup' people. I go online, hopefully find the correct drawings, part numbers THEN call the 'experts'.
Have to admit Samantha at Galer KNOWS here stuff. Had the part ready for me in less than 10 minutes !!!Though WHY she had the BH part IN STOCK is kinda 'worrying'......

GVC 160…😂😂😂
GJAEA 6455522 N5MF And yep I had to find the numbers my self on line. Seems all the other motors in this line have a spacer and an aluminum spacer and another gasket. Seems I dont know what I am talking about according to the parts guy, somebody must have lost all those parts, before I took it apart. Ya just gota shake your head some times at people, I mean I have it in my hand and aint nuttin like what he says,, OH well they have a gasket, though I might just order them from the link above!

To my Kubota dealers credit, if EVERYTHING I have to keep running around here, they’re the only place I can call and just say, “I need a _____ for a L4701” and they promptly either tell me it will be ready for pickup in 30 minutes or, if not in stock, they’ll call me in a couple of days when it’s in.

Absolutely everything else, I get the part number myself before even trying to source it. Not by choice. Required to get anything.

Some folks haven't been in the business very long. Most in our parts center can't do it without a SN either. Sad, in a way. Older guys can just use the first four of the model. Need a pressure sensor for a CVHE? No problem.
Others....well...yeah.
Thing is, the folks that don't know also don't know that a superceded part is indeed the same part. The number just changed because the vendor changed. It all comes with experience. That went out the window when inexperienced guys started wanting $20/ hr to show up to work.

Go into an auto parts store and ask the young kid behind the counter door a starter solenoid 🤣😂🤣😂😂😂

That provides me with endless entertainment. 😬😬😬😬😬

You get the "What's it go on???"

My reply "I don't care what it goes on!!!

"But I need to know what it goes on so I can get the correct one!!"

"Ok.... it goes on a Pioneer PP6"

Kid looks at the computer..... after a few minutes he can't find it 😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣

The old man that works there is laughing at the kid and already has a couple starter solenoids in his hand 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂😂

I then reply to the kid "That's why I asked for a solenoid!!!! I don't care what it's supposed to go on.... I just need to know which terminal is the "start" terminal" 😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Try getting any belt for the 1940’s? Pennsylvania Panzer lawn tractor.

Call any parts place and give them the belt number. What’s it go on? A Pennsylvania Panzer from sometime before we were both born. I don’t see that in my computer. Of course you don’t. They quit making them before parts places had computers. Can’t sell you a belt if the model isn’t in the computer.

Usually I can talk a manager into selling me the dang belt. Ordering online from some places is just as hard without inputting a specific machine.

International Harvester has been like that since the 1960s and possibly before. You need the VIN and data plate information to order just about any part. I think that they assembled trucks from parts that were ordered from multiple vendors and you need to know the genealogy of the vehicle who was working on the line the day it was built and what they ate for lunch.

Wifye's Olds Alero had a non-start issue years ago due to that resistor-in-key crap. Searching on the ol' dotcom machine indicated I needed a resistor within a certain range for a jumper to make the problem go away. Radio Shack still had a stor in the next town, so off I went.

I asked the guy for a resistor (maybe 2.2K, 1/4W) and he had no idea. He did say if they had any they'd be "back there", and pointed to a section. He followed me and helped look for one. "Nope", he says. "None of that size". I rummaged around and picked three and told him we're good. He was curious enough to ask how having three resistors, none of which matched my request, would help. I 'splained that the two matching resistors (connected in parallel) would go in series with the oddball to get what I needed.

He gave me a strange look and had no further comment. That was at least 10 years ago and the Olds is still running fine. BTW, it has lived in the garage since we bought it new in 2002 and now has a whopping 58,000 miles on it.

Skeets, I had the same challenge trying to get the little primer bulb for a similar engine. I was in the store that has a repair department so I went over there and the wouldn't even try until I had an engine number. I asked them how many sizes do you have? They don't know.

That is why Amazon has grow so big. People don't have to talk to another person who doesn't give a crap about service.

My neighbor traded in a '72 Ranchero in '76 with 12,000 miles on it. I told him he'd be better off calling a cab driving 4K miles a year. You're not far ahead of that! ;)

I had a 1972 4x4 International 1210 Travelall for many years.
Great vehicle, but a Rube Goldberg collection of parts
