Thinking Of Upgrading My L4060 To A L6060?

For some reason I think I need more power. I bought a L4060 in the spring and it does everything pretty good. The only time it was low on power was when I was deep tilling. I do have a 74 front mount snowblower for it, but I have never used it yet. I do have to blow some really deep snow at times.

A used L6060 will cost me approximately $12,000.00 more than my 4060 with the same hours. Plus there is the hassle of buying and selling. Prices are all over the place these days.

Is the extra HP really worth it?

It will be when you start blowing snow.

I've run a 3 furrow plow on my D-14 and it's easier now than 15 years ago. I've made really nice soil,so that has to help I suppose

Do you know the maintenance of either machine? Options? DOes the L6060 have a mid-pto? Tires? Need more information then engine HP. I blow snow with a 63 inch front mount on a LX2610. I get more HP would be nice, but, I can go thru snow that is higher than the blower.

Mid PTO optional on L6060.

74" is not a small snow blower.

That’s a tough choice IMO…similar weight but noticeable difference in HP. I’d ask the questions differently…I’d ask to those that have an L6060, do they wish they bought less engine?

The engines on the 40, 54, and 60 are the same with the difference in the turbo they put on it. You might want to check into adding a turbo, even third party. WRT the snow blower, I found my 5460 is quite adequate. you need a subframe, etc. I did add the diverter so I can adjust he angle of the discharge head. Handy as the blower throws snow some distance.

The 47 has a different axle so it can use the bigger loader. The 54 and 60 both have a turbo and they are slightly longer and taller than the 40-47. The bigger ones have eight bolt rear wheels also.

I have mine advertised and if it sells I will buy a L6060. I don't want to buy something and get stuck with two tractors. The market is strange these days, you never know what's going to sell.

Mine has a cab and 200 hours, hopefully I can find a L6060 with low hours also. There are lots of rusty ones for sale in Eastern Canada with 1000-2000 hours for a good price, but that's not what I want.

I often use all of what the engine in my L6060 has to offer, and I do not plow snow with it.

Have friends that buy diesel trucks and then spend more money to increase HP(and lower reliability) then brag that they can pull a house down the interstate at 90 mph while getting 4 mpg. My truck/trailer/tractor tops out at about 74 mph(not that I would go that fast). I'll stay with my factory little truck that can pull my tractor and very little else. But gets 30 mpg if I just drive it to work. Yes, more HP does allow you to work faster, but I enjoy time on my tractor. Yes I am cheap and don't like to buy fuel, even a little research into a waste vegetable oil burning LX2610. I have worked on a few of the VW and Mercedes that have been converted, so have some experience into this project.

Only you can answer that since everyone's situation is different. Even if someone else says that it was worth paying $12k for 20 more hp it doesn't mean you'll have the same experience. I would rather have more power than less, and have never regretted upgrading from a 25hp tractor to tractors with 60+ hp but that's just my reality and it has no bearing on your decision.

Are you looking for an excuse to feel good about upgrading through confirmation bias? You're the one paying for it right? Do you really need someone else to tell you that you're making the right decision? You obviously have tractor experience so make a decision that's right for you based on what you know, some research and perhaps some educated guesses.

If in doubt - pay it out! More in the tractor world is usually better.

I spent yesterday mowing trails on MX (heavy/thick/hood high)…never once did I consider if less engine or if I should have been using my B…I’ve mowed it before with my B and it does it, just a little slower (no comparison between those two machines though IMO). The MX does suck some fuel, but that’s the way it goes…it’s also more than twice as fast so it probably doesn’t matter much if just looking at the hourly consumption. If buying something never operated before, I think the tough part would be comparing to another machine if not get to try for yourself in the same situation…I’d ask the dealer if they have a machine you can demo/try. I don’t think you would be disappointed by the bigger L, but a demo might confirm worth it or not as much difference before writing the check. It might be worth asking if on the fence.

I convinced myself I needed to upgrade my L2501 to an L47 TLB. More payment, more fuel, but I do not regret the decision. Just go right for the M62.
