Well after 127 days of patiently waiting, I got my custom ordered 2021 Silverado RST 4x4 crew cab, 3.0L duramax. I love this truck! First 700km was all highway and I was getting 6.9l/100k or 34 miles per freedoms.... first thing I towed with it was a green machine d140 because it was easier to grab that from the farm than it was to grab the BX. Today was my first day of running around town and doing truck things and it’s sitting around 9.5l/100k. I added the leather package with heated seats and steering wheel, remote start, the manual tow mirrors, a hard tonneau cover, spray in bed liner, and the upgraded rubber floor mat package.

beautiful! Congratulations. That is incredible mileage. It's a really great feeling towing with a diesel. Looking forward to your "truck and trailer" pictures in the "truck and trailer thread"!

34 miles to the gallon is good in my opinion. Wish I got that in my SUV. (100k = 62 miles; 6.9L = 1.8 gallons)

I don’t expect to see it below 7 ever again. The truck was completely empty with just me in it.

That is fantastic,, I was confused but the miles then litters and km,, yeah buddy makes me think about getting rid of my 2016 Silverado she only does about 24 on the high way, which I was so excited about,, but 34mpg in a pickup!!!!!!! OHHHH DADDDY thats worth getting excited about

previously i owned a 99, 00, 01, 07 silverados/sierras. Also owned 2 different rams, and an f150. ive been waiting for GM to put a duramax in a 1500 forever! i was super excited when they revealed the 3.0L. after having the truck for a week now i can say so far i'm rather impressed with it. I expected the 10sp to try to find the right gear on the highway however its super smooth and once i set the cruise you would almost forget its even running. Its probably the quietest diesel I have ever operated. still getting used to the auto start function. it shuts the engine off when you are stuck in traffic and at red lights.

There is a button to press to shut it off. The only time i plan on doing that is when i am towing my tractor or camper. Only reason for that is i dont want there to be any delay while rolling on the throttle when towing a load.

Right. I thought the same as you but it wore on my nerves very quickly. The ford you had to disable it each time you started the vehicle unless you wanted ASS enabled. The system would disable if it detected towing conditions (if trailer plug was connected).

im going to have to check if it’s disabled automatically with a trailer. That would be awesome.

@Crash277, that is a gorgeous truck for sure. I drive an '02 F250 Super Duty 7.3L Lariat that gets around 16 mpg mixed driving, around 20 mpg doing 65 mph on the interstate, and a lot less towing. I bought that truck from a friend 3 years ago for $8k with 117,000 miles on the odometer. As appealing as a new truck is, the increased fuel mileage and even double the fuel mileage would never pay for itself given the up front cost, depreciation, insurance etc associated with a new truck. All that said, if/when I buy another truck it will simply be because I want one with no justification required.

On a side note, I'm thinking of changing the gear ratio from 3.73 to 4.10 or maybe even higher.

What is your truck rated at for towing?

you do understand going to a 4:10 gears will drop your milage even farther, but increase your towing cap. Maybe 3:55 or 3:23 gears may help your MPG but will drop your towing cap

My flat deck maxes out at 7000. This my first ever new truck, my wife had a couple in the past. Usually I try to find something coming off a lease, or a low km used one. This was a good year for us, so we figured I would custom order exactly what I wanted and then drive it till i retire. if i didnt have a 200km daily commute, I would have a super duty diesel. My plan is to drive this to either 300,000km or trade in on a 2500/250 diesel once I retire.

Hey, I'm just a little jealous that's all. That is a lovely truck for sure and no doubt you'll enjoy the heck out of it during the long commutes.

4.10 gears might or might not reduce the overall fuel mileage but they would improve the towing experience.

I bought a '98 Jeep TJ Sport in June of 2000 for $14k that only had 17k miles on the odometer. I still have and still drive that Jeep. It's a 4.0L 5 speed manual and one of the first things I did was replace the factory 3.07 gears and 31" tires with 4.56 gears and 33" tires which took me the better part of a weekend since I had to make some tools for the job. The overall fuel mileage didn't change but the driveability improved dramatically.

Given that I increased the tire diameter it's not an apples to apples comparison but at 70 mph with the factory gears and tires the engine was at 1,840 rpm compared to 2,600 rpm with the taller gears and tires. On paper that should have resulted in a big drop in fuel mileage but in reality there was no significant change.

I love this truck more each day. Total weight 2000lb trailer, 3000lb TLB, 380lb grapple, 325lb box blade, plus chains, 3pt, miscellaneous tool etc in the cross over bin. Probably say around 6-6200lbs.
