On Christmas day 1987, an ice storm rolled in from the northwest on Abilene. The next morning at, 4:00 AM, we headed out to California to visit with family. We drove in winds gusting to 45 mph on ice until 40 mi west of Midland. Semis were off the side of the road in ditches and parked. We drove over 5 hours before our wheels touched asphalt.

Yup. West Texas gets winter weather too.
