On the B2650HSDC there is a little metal rod sticking out of the floor. I knew what it was supposed to be from reading the manual but had never used it. Got into a situation on uneven ground and when a wheel started spinning instead of putting it in 4wd I just stepped on that little rod and it jumped right out of the hole it was in. What a cool little deal, I had to use the brakes on my 8N to somewhat get the same effect. Differential lock will definitely come in handy this winter. I do have a question since this is a new toy to me: Is there any benefit using the lock when the tractor is in 4wd?

Yes, it is needed in 4wd often. If going through a ditch or wash out at a angle, you will at one point have only 2 tires in good contact with the ground. When this happens the two that don't have good contact will have all the power. Step on the lock and both back tires will have power and you can drive through.

Do not engage it while you are spinning wheels. Stop, engage then go. Not only will it break, but you wont have it if you need it.

Thanks for the tips and precautions. Luckily so far have used it sparingly but probably did not wait for the wheel to stop spinning so that is something to be aware of.

It's real easy to just step on the diff lock without regard to checking if your spinning. With turf tires and a wide deck, you can find yourself spinning on a slight incline even at idle and hitting that diff lock spinning is about as bad a thing on that transmission as you can do to it.
Just be careful.
