My brother-in-law gave me his old TG1860G w/RCK54TG deck.
He said he changed all the fluids and oil and put on new belts.

It starts and runs all right but the brakes do not stop it. I found through a search how to adjust the brakes and will try it.

What I really want are PDF versions of the Operators and Work Shop Manuals. The manuals I need are the older: K1211-71210 Operator Manual and the K1211-71220 Work Shop Manual. I checked with Messicks and others but they only have the newer K1211-71214 & K1211-71222 versions and only in print which I would get if no PDF versions are available.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for these older versions?

Are you mowing on hills?

If the hydrostatic transmission is adjusted properly I wouldn't think you need brakes.

As you already know, you have to have the parking brake set for the engine to start.

I have a TG1860 gas and diesel, I've never used the brakes on either machine except to start.

I've got the original books for the gas. It was delivered 1-19-99, S/N 16653. The owner's manual that came with it is K2111-7121-1.

Those are really nice machines. Basically a zero turn with a steering wheel. I can trim around a 12" tree in one pass (provided the limbs are out of the way) with that power steering!

I've got the TG2746 two stage snowblower, 54" dozer blade, and sub-frame male hitch for one that I will never use here, if interested. Oh, your in Alabama!!

Hey D2Cat, my s/n is 20764 so it may be 1 year newer. Yes, I love the short turn radius but this one has a lot of play from side to side like how old car steering used to get.

Without a WSM I am kind of running blind. The only WSM I found for it is from Messick but it is K1211-71213 which must be for even newer models. I went ahead and ordered the newer Owner Manual, K1211-71214 as I figure I can pretty much figure out the differences but as for the WSM I believe it is more critical to get the older version.

I liked the 2 I had as well, all except the power steering. The EPS (electric power steering) in itself was crude, in that it did offer power assist, but I found them to be hard to hold a straight line. Constantly correcting. They also had a tendency to get out of whack if an object was struck, like say a curb, root, etc. Then it just wants to turn right on it's own as soon as you turn the key on. It can be reset. I'm also told that sometimes if it won't reset, the EPS unit has to be replaced-which ain't cheap.

Looseness is a lot of times in the front axle pivot. Mine were both loose; didn't bother with them as I bought them to fix and give them to family members anyway; and loose steering didn't bother them on the test drive. Also look at the drag link and tie rod; make sure they're tight. The drag link was commonly just loose, the hardware, not so much the ball joint ends. And sometimes where the drag link attached to the kingpin would be just loose causing some slack as well. Really all you're going to do is steer it with the key off and watch where any looseness might be. Easy. If the axle pivot is loose, you'll likely have to replace the worn parts.

What impressed me the most with the TG's was the cut quality. The rest of the tractor/mower was just mediocre by Kubota's standards but the cut quality was awesome. Still not as good as the T1460 and T1560 but close.

Yes the cut is very good, that is why I would like to get the steering fixed so the wife can use it.
